I read the first book a while ago and I've been dying to know when he's going to publish the second. Anyone have any ideas? I'm DESPERATE for the 2nd. I loved the first SO much! I've been obsessed with Alyce since I was a child. If anyone has any information about the 2nd book or would like to chat with me, please do!

That is really fantastic. October! How'd you find out? Do you know when in October? Beginning of the month or the end? Is it coming to the US in October or the UK? Do you know what the title is going to be? I'm just so excited that you responded. I brought the book with me to work today so I can read it again. Thank you! :o

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. I think I might pre-order it from online. I'd be great if Mr. Beddor came down to Texas and did a signing! May I inquire, what was your favorite part of the book?

Oh i liked the first appearance of the cat. I think it was a clever representation of the character

HeartyHeather
02-01-2007, 09:43 PM
Yeah! I really enjoyed that too. I was shocked at first though. I couldn't believe that wry, smiling cat was now this top-of-the-line assassin. It blew my mind. I really enjoyed his interpretation of the Mad Hatter. Hatter Madigan was by far one of my favorite if not the favorite. I still have a fondness for Alyss herself but Hatter Madigan is an extremely close second. Maybe he's 1.5.:p

May I inquire, what was your favorite part of the book?

It was probably when Hatter M scared Carroll out of his wits - that was funny. And mentioning Carroll's 'glow' actually made me come close to thinking that Beddor actually had some respect for the man. In terms of least favourite parts, I wasn't impressed with most of Part Three; it felt too much like the typical LotR fantasy quest stuff we've seen so many times before.

And don't write in dark red, it's hard to read.

HeartyHeather
02-02-2007, 09:06 AM
I liked that part with Hatter M too. I also liked when he was rolled up in that carpet and then escaped and caused so much havoc. But I was sad for him wandering over so many cuontries for so long. That's dedication!
I liked the third part, it was exciting. I couldn't wait to turn the page and see what happened. Yes, it had some similarities but it's not like he meant it to sound like LoTR (also good books).
The reason I write in red is because it happens to be my favorite color. And I don't find it hard to read at all. But, out of respect of others eyes, I will change the color.
If you want to chat more we can continue on here or you can always message me on AIM.

what do you guys think is gonna happen to Dodge? He's one of my favorites in the book

HeartyHeather
02-14-2007, 06:10 AM
Not sure exactly. I want him to get revenge and everything but not at the expense of Alyss of anyone else. he's very preoccupied with it and it's affecting the way he defends her.

Lady_Melisma
02-14-2007, 08:40 PM
I have the feeling Dodge will never really be free of his desire for vengeance. As much as Alyss would like it, Wonderland can't simply be divided into "White" and "Black" factions; there will always be the those who are the shades of grey in between, and Dodge may well be one of those.

Well, let's not go that far! Gravely wounded, fine, but dead? Who would be the replacement romantic interest?!

And for love of White Imagination, please don't volunteer Jack of Diamonds. He's probably still got those charges of treason and collaboration against him....

Dodge has to get hurt at some point. I think we all have to come to terms with that. I really liked him in the book but towards the end I didn't. He was so self-involved and could've gotten a lot of people hurt with his disregard for anything not related to his revenge. I hope he doesn't die though. I kind of want him to get rehabilitated and become the old Dodge again. Think that's too much to expect?

Lady_Melisma
02-15-2007, 10:14 AM
He won't be the innocent kid he was once, but I'd like to see him mature to the point where revenge isn't his main focus. Alyss might have to use tough love in order to set him straight. He doesn't have to be physically hurt if he gets a psychological beating.

Yes, it is. People change, and since this is meant to be 'dark', having him 'rehabilitated' would be a bit of a cop-out.

If Redd makes a comeback, how is she supposed to do so? Throwing oneself into a giant energy crystal and becoming incorporal and spread throughout time and space seems rather difficult to extract oneself from (wholly, at least). Ideas, theories, hypotheses?

my theory is that she will be "invented" somewhere else if you know what I mean, she was thrown in the invention ma bobber, and then come back to wonderland unexpectadly

OR

Alyss begins to believe she sees redd in the looking glass, because shes growing frightened or something, and eventually she does come back when Alyss looks somewhere where people walk out of mirrors, A.K.A The looking glass maze....

Reincarnation, perhaps?

The title is "Seeing Redd" so that would make sense or...

Alyss will be paranoid and actually begin to take on some of Redd's traits?

Lady_Melisma
02-18-2007, 01:19 PM
I just wondered - is it possible that she doesn't make a physical return at all? What if the book is like a prequel, where Alyss is learning more about Wonderland's recent history and why Redd turned out the way she did. I'd like to see Redd fleshed out a bit more, discover her childhood, her experiences, and being the eldest daughter supplanted by a younger sister. Flashback appearances don't count as returning in the normal sense, do they?

Or maybe Redd doesn't get out of the crystal. Perhaps she begins influencing lesser minds, turning them into her puppets, try to assassinate Alyss or stage a coup and set the stage for another revolution further down the road. I'm pretty sure that Wonderland's always had periods of peace interspersed with times of civil war between the followers of Black and White Imagination.

I think that the paranoid theories are dead right but I some how see Redd coming back as Alyss' daughter in some point in the thrid book and then time will repeat it self all over again. Or Redd made a back up plan and will come back through some person and here is another thought, How will the Cct come back as well or are the couple some how stuck together.

There are several character's in the wonderland story that can provide a return...

The Dutchess for example, in the Wonderland story she could be compared to the queen. She has the same snap and anger.

I also have a theory that Molly is the Hatter's child, and the woman Hatter has been missing is the March Hare. Maybe Alyss seen them share a moment during a tea party, and she told Dodgeson while he was writing wonderland.
I have yet to see:
-The Mock Turtle
-The Gryphon
-Eaglet
-Bill the Lizard
-The Carpenter
-animals like, mome-wraths, jub-jubs, bander-snatches, Boojums, and snarks
-Tugley wood? (Everlasting forrest)
-March Hare
-A talking dormouse (all them are fried in book)

Who knows.... they all could be explained away in the next book...

HeartyHeather
02-19-2007, 09:07 PM
That was my first thought as well. That Hatter is Molly's father. I saw some similarities between the two and they made some reference to one of her parent's being a Milliner.

Mad Hatter Madigan
02-19-2007, 11:38 PM
She's a halfer

Hatter's love interest is a civilian...
I'm guessing she's March Hare
Molly could be their love child, because Alyss noticed both are a like in ways.

Lady_Melisma
02-20-2007, 08:56 AM
I figured Molly had to be Hatter's daughter by the civilian administrator, but it never occurred to me that Molly's mother could be a March Hare analogue. Certainly an intriguing idea worth exploring! Does Beddor read these threads?

Mad Hatter Madigan
02-20-2007, 02:05 PM
I do not know, but wouldn't it be funny if Alyss saw the two in a tea party together? Dodgeson (Carroll) being told of these things by Alyss, could have developed the Mad Tea Party scene from that experience.

Maybe the name scrambled, Charm Haer, perhaps...
but it's a theory... I got no evidence of this at all.

I hope Frank Beddor does read my posts, he's been overlooking characters like the Dutchess, the Mockturtle, the Griffon, and not to mention about 50% of wonderland characters he could use.

I hope this is a related question, wasn't sure where to post it -

In the book, doesn't the artwork for the Playing Cards look virtually identical to the battle droids in the newest Star Wars movies? (I'm no Star Wars expert, I just noticed the similarity). Did Beddor work on those movies?

Thanks,

TL

Mad Hatter Madigan
02-27-2007, 03:26 PM
Frank is a writer, I don't think he's a designer.
Yes, the cards look like the Star Wars droids... they need to go back to drawing board or face lawsuits....

Remember Lucas will sue anybody, if anyone remember the old Battlestar Galatica legal battles.

Princess Alyss Heart
02-27-2007, 05:32 PM
yea, they do look very simmilar to the droids in star wars. The drawings look amazing, but they look too much like the droids to be in public for everyone to see.

Lady_Melisma
02-28-2007, 11:44 AM
I remember reading somewhere (can't recall where exactly) that the guy who did the concept art for the card soldiers was the same one who designed the Star Wars droids. I checked the names and they matched up - so it's not copyright infringement so much as it's a artist recycling an older idea/design.

TigerLily
02-28-2007, 02:01 PM
That is really interesting. I assumed (and like I said elsewhere, I just read the book and am new to the site - always late to the ball!) that Beddor did all the art himself. Was it a group of artists, or just one, who did the art?

Thanks!

i think i remember reading about that too! But they should still eliminate it because we want an Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass/Looking Glass Wars feeling....not a Star Wars feeling.

Lady_Melisma
02-28-2007, 09:24 PM
Or rather, replace it with a different concept; I agree that the idea of Star Wars is pretty much entrenched in nearly everyone's minds when they see that art - either that or a sense of deja-vu.

Mad Hatter Madigan
03-01-2007, 10:45 AM
Yes like a horrid song you can not get out of your head.

I used to like the series, now it's commercial and you see all these fool carrying around toy sabers. It used to be a pinncle of culture in cinema, now it's fodder for fan boys to fight and argue and collect their plastic toys.

TigerLily
03-01-2007, 10:51 AM
I read the artists' bios, and at least three of them worked on Stars Wars (all Episode I, I believe).

There is just no need to use such a similar image for LGW. There is such rich imagery from both the original books and this one that the similarity makes the art seem a bit less original and creative. Besides, even Beddor's Wonderland doesn't have the mechanistic, futuristic feel of Star Wars, so the art shouldn't.

Mad Hatter Madigan
03-01-2007, 10:57 AM
I never did like those weak looking droids...
They hardly looked like a threat, they helped spoil the prequels for me.

No but seriously. I have too say that I as well saw the whole Card Soldier/Droid thing and honestly wasn't bothered by it or anything. I just assumed since Beddor used to work in films he still knew some people who continue to work in films, (one being Star Wars I assume) and he invited them to help him work on his conceptual art tand they brought the idea along in some way. The whole point it doesn't matter how they look as long as they continue to RULE. *ahem*
