i was searching through some new movies coming out for this and next year and i happen to stumble across this-

Lewis Carroll's 19th-century fantasy has been reinvented many times, most famously by Walt Disney. And now American McGee, one of the designers behind the Quake and Doom videogame series, will have his adaptation of the classic story brought from the world of videogames to the big screen with his addition to the Looking Glass legends, American McGee's Alice.

The videogame allows players to take on the role of a wiser, more industrious heroine who sets out in this third-person 3-D action game to free Wonderland from the tyranny of the Queen of Hearts.

The story follows Alice after her home has been destroyed and her family killed. She is teh sole survivor of the disaster, and she must return to a dark and threatening Wonderland where she must confront her fears before returning to her normal life.

um....starring Sarah MIchelle Geller?! Supposedly this is the adaptation of American McGee's Alice computer game [which i have yet to play] but if they are doing this, is it likely that they are gonna make the Looking Glass Wars into a movie? :(

Oh, dear. A movie with that description being released doesn't bode well for this movie.

I've seen things for this movie, not good. Alice in Wonderland is supposed to be fantastical woo hoo and la di das, this movie is about blood and gore, and other junk. Not good. At least Beddor CHANGED the whole wonderland thing, to a believable cause, these people just messed it up!

Remember that the movie in question is based on the Alice computer game--and yes, it's probably going to suck. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of films based on a video or computer game which DIDN'T suck.
Here is some information on the upcoming movie from IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0466663/

Hopefully, the film with Sarah Michelle Gellar will vanish into obscurity and not affect future sales of The Looking Glass Wars.

Oh, I just looked at it. "Alice (Gellar), now a disturbed young woman"? What the heck?

Gellar is good in those cheesy scary movies but not as Alyss. My god people, this movie is going to be horrible. They can't get a better main character?...

I happen to like the American Mcgee Game...
I am the biggest Wonderland fan ever...

THERE ARE 4 ALICE MOVIES COMING OUT THIS YEAR:
-American Mcgee's Alice
-Tideland
-Malice in Sunderland
-Phasmagoria: The visions of Lewis Carroll (starring Marilyn Manson)

American Mcgee is also working on an Wizard of Oz Trilogy, and the Grimm FairyTales Game.

It's treated as a sequal rather it's it's own story...
I do like the Chesire Cat in that game, he is simply outstanding!!

My thoughts exactly.

If only it wasn't Geller [ ]playing Alice [In the game, which the movie if after, it's still Alice, not Alyss] it would probably be better.

She can play a vampire hunter, or whatever, fine.

But not Alice.

Hey Mad Hatter - where'd you get the info about the other Alice movies? Should I just google it? And I have to say, I'm quite intrigued by a Marilyn Manson version - I haven't listened to much of his music, but I became a fan of his when I saw Bowling for Columbine. He was one of the few adults in the whole movie to make any sense. Anyway, sorry, don't want people to go off on a Marilyn Manson rant (pro or con), I was just curious about the other Alice versions. Do they all come from books?

To be fair - Gellar did a decent job playing crazy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as playing a very traumatized girl in The Body. Also to be fair - she can't do accents. That and she did actually do some acting in Cruel Intentions.

Furthermore - Pick on the Alice game and movie all you want, it's more true to Carroll than Beddor has been. I've played the game and read Beddor's book, and the original books, and criticisms, and all the stuff that comes with focusing on it as part of your university career. I prefer McGee. McGee includes characters Disney sheds and Beddor doesn't even acknowledge. Sure, she's an insane girl and Wonderland is actually a reflective glass to her inner mind, it isn't that original. But neither is stealing someone's idea and just changing it up while completely disregarding the original message behind it, then calling it a completely original work and promoting it like hell.

So if you're going to critique things, look inwards, my friends, before you go yelling at something you haven't tried. Those who have played and finished the game, then feel free to rant.

Geller is not playing Alyss, but rather supposedly playing Alice. This is completely different. I do not think that just because they make American McGee's Alice that they won't make the Looking Glass wars. McGee's is a horror and The Looking Glass Wars is more of an Epic Action/Adventure. There can never be too much Wonderland!

ok here's my opinion: Personally I LOVE all versions of Alice in Wonderland. I don't know if I'm as big a fan as Hatter here but I probably come close. Anyway American McGee's Alice is a GOOD gmae despite graphics and darkness. It's just different. The Looking Glass Wars ranks no higher or lower on my scale. I think the idea to make movies for BOTH of these is a GOOD idea as well. However I have to agree that I LOATHE the thought of Sarah Michelle Gellar playing ALice. I mean does she have to "the scary movie girl"? Why not cast Christina Ricci? Now THERE'S someone who could do justice to the part. Anybody but Buffy people. We should keep our fingers crossed that they don't cast Sarah in LGW's movie. *prays*

i was looking at youtube and i thought, why not search the looking glass wars, they might have cool stuff. so i click search and start looking at the vids. then i scroll down on the scrolly downy thingy and i see this
"Alice Underground Trailer"
i click on it and it was just lik the looking glass wars except alyss/alice was nooo sara m. geller. wen i looked at it i was lik omg:eek: ! did they already have the auditions??????i decided not to comment becuz i wanted to hurry and look at this website , so i wen i got over here and pressed media and they had the same thing, i was soo cunfused so i went back on youtube.com and type in Alice Underground Trailer and saw tht it was put on there one year ago. I don't no if the movie is a old movie or a new movie but the graffics looked lik it was new so if anyone KNOWS ANYTHING PLZ TELL ME !!:D

No, that trailer is for an independent film. I think it's more of a new age thing rather than having anything to do with the LGW trilogy or American McGee's Alice (the movie with Sarah Michelle Geller).

I doubt that we'll be left out of the loop when the auditions begin.

The kind Colonel has announced that when things start, we'll hear it here on the site. If we're lucky, we'll be the FIRST ones to get the information, other than the casting agencies and such, perhaps even before it all officially begins. Now wouldn't THAT be nifty? Having time to prepare and all that?

In short...don't worry, be happy. It'll all happen when it's ready to happen ;D

I'm pretty sure he'll wait until the last book is out before he starts adapting the first as a screenplay. It'd be too much work to try to balance the screenplay, the third book, and his job as a producer. Once he's started on the screenplay, they'll probably start the auditions.

I don't know if Beddor's the type to look for raw talent; maybe, maybe not. It'd be nice if he does; new movies like this usually call for a fresh face and new talent.

As far as I have heard, they have already adapted the first book to screenplay and are looking for directors right now. Seeing Redd is in the process of being adapted now. Someone who has worked in the movie biz can, I'm sure, find time to balance anything and everything that they want. :)

I agree with you on some statements. I thhink the game looks twisted, but cool. I may be more into shooters, but it pretty good. As for the movie, i dont know. Watching an R-rated movie is much worse than playing an M-rated game. For instance, compare the Halo games to the Saw movies. Big differance.
I'm not much into R-rated movies, especially Saw, but the game does not look very violent to me. [This is based on the trailers and videos i watched on youtube.] If you want my opinion, out with the movie and thumbs-up with the game. Assuming the movie is R. If it turns out PG-13, which is a lot easier to stomach, than I will definantly buy it. Sadly, this will probably turn out into one of those movies that takes a really cool idea and ruins it with a plethora of foul lauguage and guts, like The Matrix.
The other thing I disagree with is about LGW. Frank Beddor's novels rock! They're not very true to Lewis Carrol, but, heck, Alice In Wonderland wasn't that great anyway. Especially the movie. I think if there was a video game, LGW would probably be just as fun as Alice. Both ideas are cool.

Frank Beddor came to our school in September and showed the trailer for the first book as a film and some wickedly awesome special effects for the card soldiers. He says they will be doing auditions for Alyss and Dodge but no one else. He didn't say when or where, but supposedly they'll hold auditions in multiple places around the U.S....:)

I don't think that will be as likely as you think.

Bear in mind: Mr. Beddor has experience with the movie realm. He's not just an author writing a book like, say, J.K. Rowling, and he likely will have a very strong part of what the movie will be like. He's not going to just hand his stuff over to someone else and say "here, make a movie". His hands, I'm guessing, will be in the pot and getting dirty.

Exactly. He did a little movie called "There's Something About Mary". Haha I was reading his bio and found out he was a champion...something. I can't remember, but it's pretty neat

I heard that the old American McGee computer game Alice was fun, but got pretty old since it was just basically a hack n' slash. I think that a movie adaptation will be interesting, but if it doesn't go over well with fans, they may be less inclined to wanna see LGW as a film, which would suck.

As a side note, a LGW video game would be sweet!

Im a kind of person who is really into computer gaming and game consol stuff. My favorite game series happens to be the Final Fantasy games, if they had Square Soft, or I think its called Square Enix now, to make an Alice in wonderland game, not only would it have a good story line, it would have the latest graphic imaging out there!
