Yea well whenever auditions are can someone please let me know because my friend is a brilliant actress who's read the book and really wants to audition for the role as young Alyss.

I dont either but I read a scene from the movie for Frank and he told me that he'll update the site whenever he knows about it. Its a three year process (making the movie).... because it has many special effects and it looks as if the special FX are being done first but then again, they may not. im not fully sure though he just told me they'd be up eventually.

I'm no expert on filmmaking, but I recall one of my friends enrolled in my university's film studies programme mentioning special effects usually being done after the actors had shot against a bluescreen, with the remainder digitally inserted in post-production. Unless the CG crew decided to get all the wholly computerised scenes and images completed whilst filming goes on.

My guess is that if we keep our eyes on the website and on the board, things will be announced so that parties interested can make it to auditions.

The only thing that I might suggest is that if you are not familiar with how auditions work, and you are serious about auditioning, it's really important to research that information and prepare for them. There are plenty of resources on the Net that provide even the basic information about auditions and what to do and not to do.

Also, some of you have acting experience..perhaps a few of you could discuss any common qualifications that may be required that you've run across (SAG membership, etc.). I think it could really help those who might be thinking upon seriously auditioning to prepare. A little bit of 'board comraderie' as it were.

As the teacher of my one semester of theater taught me: auditions are essentially job interviews, and need to be treated as such. There will likely be MANY people auditioning for the roles...not only fans, but people who need acting jobs to make their livelihood who run through the book in a few days to acquaint themselves with the various roles. I'm actually quite impressed that the prospect of fans auditioning is even a possibility.

Another thing to keep in mind: This will be a SERIOUS commitment, particularly for those taking primary roles. If acting is not your main line of work, you may find yourself torn between your 9 to 5 job and travelling to XYZ in order to film somewhere. Younger individuals may find that filming could interfere with their schooling schedules.

I'm not trying to be a wet rag on anyone's hopes. I do however, feel it's important to put some of this out on the table for perusal, since it hasn't been brought up already.

Aunt Redd's looking out for you. Fear.

I am all about all of us coming together to help. As a theatre instructor I agree 100% with Her Imperial Viciousness. You are selling yourself at an audition and on top of all that you are competing against many other people with as much if not more talent than yourself. A few things to I teach my students and will be applying myself for auditions are:

1. Prepare mentally and physically. Get into shape and familiarize yourself with the entire book.
2. Go to as many auditions as possible to get familiar with the process.
3. Go into the audition with a good attitude and the willingness to take any role you get, if you really want to be involved.
4. Don't audition and then quit! That is suicide. Make sure and check all events in your life to see if anything is going to interrupt the shooting schedule.
5. Be realistic about who you audition for. Know the character inside and out. If they are looking for a slender, athletic, experienced actor for Hatter Madigan and you are stocky, short with no acting in your past then you may not fit the role.

I don't know everything but I want to help all I can. I am right with everyone in wanting to audition and have to ask myself the same questions so now we can only train ourselves and hope. Good luck Alyssians.

I don't believe there's anything to say that you can't audition for more than one character; I've friends in Vancouver who work in the television industry there and they say it's possible to audition for more than one character in the same series (though not at the same audition).

Keep in mind, that if you do go to the auditions, that you may not necessarily be cast as the character you auditioned for. I know of one girl who tried for a lead role in one of the sci-fi shows they've got filming in Vancouver, but another actress was cast. Despite the setback the producers were impressed enough by her appearance and skills and invited her back for a two-episode guest role. So you never know, really.

I really want to audition for this movie. I mean REALLY.
To tell you the truth, I have barely any acting experience. I've only been in school plays... and for some reason I never get good parts... I was a tree in The Wizard of Oz... But at least I didn't quit even when I got a small part. I've never dropped out of a play. It's against my CODE.

But anyway, I'm a decent actress. I know I could be Alyss if given the chance. I mean, it's harder to be a TREE than a princess.

But do you think I'd have to have an English accent? I'm really American...

Her Imperial Viscousness and WhiteKnight have some very true and good tips for the auditioning process. I myself am about to graduate college from an Acting University, and hope to audition for the role of Dodge.

It's definitely a good idea to acquaint yourself with the audition process. Go to a few local auditions just to see how the paperwork and everything go. If you're into auditioning on a regular basis for these things, things like SAG membership, etc. are not always completely necessary (definitely not for open auditions) but overall can be helpful.
Having a knowledge of the books is not always a huge help (as we've unfortunately witnessed with dozens of lame comic or book-to-movie adaptations, but it will be useful. Many directors like it when their actor/actress already has a knowledge of the world and character they'd like to play, it shows commitment and interest.
Auditions are all about confidence. Remember, when you walk into that audition room, nobody wants you to mess up. Quite the opposite; every director wants you to succeed, hopes from the moment you walk in that you'll be the person who blows them away.

I hope some of that information is useful to you all. I can't wait til they post more information about the movie!

does anyone know any good websites or sources to find local auditions? i don't have any acting experience, but i did want to audition for the movie, if given the chance. I've always thought about acting but was kind of scared... and now I think I'm ready to take that first step... I think the last time I acted was in my 4th grade musical. I had one of the solo parts. The part i'd like to audition for is Molly.

I don't know, but I'm really hoping they'll cast someone slightly older who looks younger--I WICKED want to play Molly, and she's 13, but I'm 15. I look a lot younger, though, so I think I've got a chance. :o

I've often thought, while reading a book, that a certain character would be awesome to portray. But I've never been this...well, obsessed with any particular part like I am with Homburg Molly. You have no idea. I seriously think about the character everywhere I go, anything I do. Maybe it's because I know that they're definitely making a movie, and that the process to do so is already in motion (script done, meeting with directors...).

Or maybe I'm just a totally insane freak of an actress, but whatever.

Is that who you are shooting for? That would be so cool to play Alyss! But since I'm young and the perfect age for Homburg Molly, I'm shooting for her. That's also a good thing because she's like my fave character. I wonder what her hair color is? I'm not sure if I can go to the auditions though. It depends where it's held. Hopefully you can do video auditions too. That's what I'm most likely gonna have to do.

AlyssH
07-09-2008, 02:29 PM
Yeah, I'm a couple years older than Molly, but I look a lot younger than I am.

She's my favorite character as well. :)

I don't know if my parents will let me go to the auditions, but I'm saving my money--whether it's to buy a plane ticket to the auditions, or a video camera so I can record myself and send it in!

Hey, I think I remember you saying that you did film acting as a kid--commercials and TV shows and stuff. Maybe while we're waiting for auditions to be announced, you could educate some of us less-fortunate actors and actresses on the world of the cameras. Like, terms and abbreviations to know, how a shoot works, who's who in the crew, etc., etc.

Sure I would love to!!!
Well you have to practice the charater you want to be and speak clearly.
I acted like myself for the show I was in and the fashion show cuase they just wanted kids but for people like Homburg Molly or Young Alice, I would try to find some monologues that they might be like they're personallity and give yourself confidence.
*most important!!! be yourself when you go to the auditions and then act the best you can!!! WITH YOUR WHOLE HEART*

hey you guys what do you think they would do for the auditions? I think we're gonna be reading. what do you think the script would be like???

grdonathan
09-06-2008, 11:54 AM
Yea, most likely it will be a reading.

Not sure how they'll do the script. I'm sure that Beddor had a giant hand in it so we can at least expect it to stay true to the flow and feel of the book. Like when Anne Rice actually wrote the script for 'Interview waV'. That movie followed the book nicely...unlike 'Queen otD', which she had no hand in. I would expect that (depending on the Alyss age you'd try out for) you'd read something from the early 'post-Pool of Tears-in England' days where she's confused and touchy. And for older Alyss...they might even have the audition hopefuls read 2 parts. I'd say when she first gets back to Wonderland, the shock of that all, that she really didn't make any of it up. And I would think also sometime after she got her scepter. Probably part of the war times.

I dunno, those are my thoughts on it.

theDreamer&Believer
09-06-2008, 02:25 PM
good ideas
what do you think they would do for molly (for all the molly wannabe's out there *including me* lol)

grdonathan
09-06-2008, 03:37 PM
Hmmm...for Molly, since most of her really important stuff happens in the second book. Not COMPLETELY sure what they'd have you read for her. But I can guess that it might be interaction with Hatter as those were some of her more prideful, showing moments in the first book. So I guess you could work on hiding wounded pride with a bit of 'whatever, I'm just as good as I think I am' attitude.

AlyssH
09-07-2008, 10:55 AM

I really hope they hold auditions somewhere decently close to where I live, because I totally can't afford to take a plane anywhere. I have some acting experience, but I feel like I can do extremely well if I put everything into it. With this movie especially, I know I would. It would mean more to me then I could say with words if I got even a small part in TLGW. I don't have much left going for me these days, and that would give me hope for my future.

Good luck to everyone who plans on auditioning!

Hiya TTS! Welcome to the forums.... even though they're pretty dead right now. DX They'll ressurect eventually though! They always do. :)

There's not really much info right now about the auditions. I would say that if you have a particular question, email them at the address given on the movie page of this website. That's probably the surest way to get your questions answered. :)

New person here!!! Just adding a few questions to this thread. Is this a Feature film we're talking about here or an independent film and who's doing it- or rather starting to? I'd also really like to know when and where the auditions are too and what the requirements are!
I'm an actor that is also a fan- I don't care if I get a part I just want a chance to experience the auditioning process if nothing else...though I'd REALLY love to be Molly- hence the name
