What do you think Dodge looks like in your mind? Other then what they tell you in the book? In my opinion I think he is very cute and masculin (spelling?) lovley lips, broad sholders. There is a lot more but to many things. I want to hear what you think.

Well myself havening grown up in the "anime" generation tend to imgina the book..well in that style lol yhea i'm a weirdo dun make fun fun of me fandom so whenever i pictured dodge i always saw him looking klike Syaoran from TSUBASA RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE (moreso then in card captor sakura) but alas TLGW isn't an anime but still.. we can all enjoy eye candy!!

His hair would be short, his arms would be muscular and strong. His skin would be pale, but not in a sickly way. Dodge would have an innocent heart, but as the story goes on, his heart hardens. But when Alyss returns, his heart softens back to normal.
I hope that whoever plays him in the movie isn't a big hollywood star because The Looking Glass Wars is all about not believing in the same old Alice in Wonderland story, so why should the movie have actors or actresses that are same old stars as we know, play the parts?

When I think Dodge, I imagine a lose version of Hatter Madigan. They're quiet when fighting in battle, and are always composed and silent. The only difference I perceive between Hatter and Dodge is that Hatter moves a lot stiffer than Dodge.

Oh, and Dodge wears a blue guard uniform. Heheh.

I completely agree with Josh Hutcherson as young Dodge, he's perfect. But I really cannot see Milo Whatever-He's-Called as Dodge... he looks too suave and... somehow greasy. I think Dodge has a more rugged thing going. ;) Dusty brown hair, etc. However, I do think his actions in that movie clip are very Dodge - just not the right actor.

I think that Jonas Armstrong is the closest actor so far to embody the legacy of Dodge. but hes still not close enough

I think Dodge is one of those people who pulls you in with his eyes. He seems like the strong and silent type in his later years, and has a brash streak when it comes to things like the cat. Strong and muscular, but nimble and quick on his feet.

I mean, he did witness his father die. But he also has a deturmened face, that tells you that he takes his pain and sorrow in both hands, and uses it to thrive in battel and the hardships in his life. And the scarrs on his face would just add to this look of determination and saddness. It would make him... it would make him think everytime he looks in the mirror, my goal it to protect Alyss, wonderland, to keep others from suffering as I have suffered.

That's awsome Artemis! :) I used to have a dog. I named her Lady. It turns out I misnamed her because she was far from being a lady. Although, she did enjoy to wrap her leash around my little brother's ankles so he'd fall *laugh* so dogs are always useful in the torment area. (LOL)

I think dodge looks like err um short brunet hair, blue eyes that glistens at any given moment hes tall broad shoulders muscular body, but not to buff, and tanned. There is so much more but so hard to describe. err yeah

I think that a few people have some good ideas but here is my idea of dodge...

He is darker, dark hair almost black, he has deep, serious brown eyes that never seem to stop, an abyss that is the only remnant of the pain and sorrow of his childhood, they are a constant mystery even to the people closest to him, his face is very rugged and the scars make him look even more like a badass. He has some facial hair, stubble or a goatee or something idk its always changing for me. His hair is kind of short, not buzz cut but not long enough to reach his eyes. I see him as muscular but not body builder, he is not skinny or small by any means, about 200 lbs and 6 foot.he is tanned because he has speant most of his time outside fighting. He isn't short tempered, very mellow, he always has his head on a swivel so to speak. He doesnt pitty himself like some people on the forum tjink, he has chosen to exile himself and so he is very self obsorbed? Not in the bad way but like lost in his own mind. He seems very mysterious even when we know so much about him, he would do anything for alyss but he has problems controlling his emotions becase he was fueled by rage for so long, he is having trouble letting go of his "animal instincts" I really can't see him as a well known actor, hopefully someone new... :)

Dodge has to be handsome. Seriously. Even though he can be very removed from people whenever The Cat comes around, he can also be very loving and quite a gentleman.

Back to what he looks like... I notice the books don't give us that many descriptions... I think the most detailed one is in the Looking Glass Wars; pages 192-193:

"Alice reached up and removed his mask, revealing the face of a handsome young man with almond-shaped eyes, a nose that had probably been broken more than once, and dusty, disheveled hair.

'Do I know you?'

'You knew me once,' the stranger said. He turned his right cheek to her, showing the four parallel scars that shone pink and ragged against his pale skin."

I always pictured Dodge as being with dark hair... either black or brunette. NOT A BLONDE! :eek: I think he'd also have dark colored eyes.

Concerning his physical appearance, I also pictured him having dark hair and, for some odd reason I also pictured him having either green or brown eyes.

He loved them BOTH immensely and when he lost them both, his world very literally shattered. All that happening at once around such a young, determined boy will only create a psychosis where he's not going to need to, nor WANT to do much else but get revenge for those who had been the two most important people in his life.

So he grew into a man who only knew darkness, loneliness and war. He distances himself from others because he doesn't want to CARE enough about someone else again. Especially not with the devastating war going on around them where they may lose anyone at any time. What else is going to happen to such a broken...then POORLY mended mind when one of those people, that you tentatively built yourself back up avenging, suddenly is thrust back into your life? That poor guy is being pulled so many ways at once, it's no shock that some might think of it as 'whiny'. I personally end up just finding him one of the most intriguing characters in the book thanks to his inner struggle against HIMSELF.

He has very shakily built his life back up from the rubble Redd turned it into by fighting...and fighting like a maniac at times we find out. He's the one who does the apparent 'suicide missions'. Because if he's going to go out...he's going to do it doing something no one else has the guts to do, but that desperately needs to be done. If anything, he's the blind hero in those cases, a far cry from whiny.

Then insert Alyss...the young princess whom he'd loved even though they were so young. The young princess whom he'd thought was dead all these years? Well, it's enough to rip down the fragile wall he's built around himself to keep himself from caring about anyone ELSE. It's going to rupture the psychosis he's wrapped around himself like a warm blanket all those years. Of course it's going to tear at him. What matters is what he chooses to do with that blanket in the next book....

I don't Agee with the light eyes thing, I see lighter eyes (blue or green) as not as mysterious. The darker the eyes the more truth they hold about a person and the person can hide more in them(contradictory I know but that is what makes it so much more mysterious because u can't explain it.) haha but he is definetly the internal struggle in the story, even more so than alyss I think because she has accepted things while he has made himself dwell in it for fear that if he moved on he would forget why he lived for so long, he is also having the huge struggle between black and white imagination. For instance when alyss is in the looking glass maze and dodge says "hate makes you strong. Forget restoring white imagination to power and wonderland to it's past glory there's no justice except the justice of revenge. The only way to defeat redd is to embrace your anger" and I know that it is an over exaduration(sp?) but in actuality that Is what he feels, he doesn't know how to survive in redds time without black imagination so when he is given a choice to accept white or black he isn't sure what to choose so I think he keeps alittle bit of both.

I agree with darker eyes, I always pictured him with really, really dark blue or green (preferably green). I agree that lighter eyes do seem to end up with characters that have a lighter attitude towards life. Dark eyes with broody characters always give you such options to play with.

I also agree that Dodge will always have a mixture of the White and Black Imaginations within him, but is that REALLY such a bad thing? I'm not sure it is. I almost see it as...when he finally finds a balance anyways...something that will make him stronger because he'll always be able to analyze things BOTH ways.

Ok! So I re-read the lookng glass wars yesterday and I totally had a breakthrough with dodge! Haha, I'm still not sure what to make of it yet but when alyss's wedding gets ambushed by the card soldiers and the cat is about to rip her to shreds dodge grabs her and RUNS AWAY! What the freak?? Haha. The first time I read it I didn't catch that because I didn't know dodges "revenge" obsession but now that I do it completely caught me off guard by what happened! Silly I know Cuz I already read it once but it was something completely new to me? What is everyones take on this? Maybe hearing other peoples opinions will help me make my opinion. :)

That's true, but there I'd say that it's an example of how Alyss affects him. ALSO, he was on a mission. I know later, when they were at Mount Isolation, they were on a mission too, but Alyss wasn't in dire need during that one. So yet again, my theory on Alyss affecting his judgment at times like that holds true.

During the wedding, he had to save her by running or she would have died. He was the only one there who could save her, so his Alyss button was pressed and he let Cat go that time. On Mount Isolation, he could afford to be a little self-centered because, in his mind at least, there were plenty of others there who were capable of completing the task at hand.

I agree with you on that one, and it's actually sort of a redeeming moment for Dodge. He's showing that, when you have to choose one or the other -Alyss or the Cat- he will choose Alyss because, for all the amont of revenge that can completely cripple all the sense in him, Alyss still holds more of a grip on his heart than does his desire for the Cat's blood. Good thing for the Cat. :D

I guess... I don't get what you're trying to say. What do you mean "something more"? Yeah like you pointed out the Alyssians always noticed that he was filled with throttling anger towards The Cat and so they never, like, sent him storming onto Mt. Isolation or whatever while the Cat and Redd were still in Wonderland.

But I think when they sent someone to rescue Alyss they wanted to send someone who cared about her more than anything elese... obviously that's Dodge. Hatter was still getting his strength back and Dodge insisted so... oh, shoot, let me go get the book and look up the exact passage. (I know, I'm such a geek w/ my books and direct passages!!!!) :rolleyes:

Oh, hey, I noticed something and maybe this is just me dreaming, but I am seeing that everything is mostly from Alyss' ...er, Alice's... perspective right in this part. So if Dodge, who had not expected the Cat to be there, had had some sort of brief mental battle with himself upon seeing the Cat but just decided that Alyss was more important at the moment, it is very likely that Alyss -for whom things were still in whirl- might not have noticed it and therefore it was just left out of the book.
