I wish I were old enough to play Dodge! That would be one heck of a role! Maybe if they wait a few years, highly unlikely, I know, but a guy can dream can't he?

Has the date or location even been announced yet?
In a word, no. They're still shopping out the movie to the studios, afterall...and this will take time so that they can get things like a budget, additional marketing, and such. It's a distinct process that has to happen to get put together, and it doesn't take overnight.
I'm sure if there is some sort of open event that will happen (and note the qualifier, 'if'), it will be announced on the site so that everyone is aware.

I didn't even know there were going to be auditions! I'm probably too old for any of the parts. I look way older than I am *sigh* I guess if I had to pick anyone to play it would be Redd. I just love a good villian and Redd's one of the best.
Either way I'll enjoy the movie.

I think it depends on how old Redd actually is, as well as how she looks. It's said that sometimes one's heart is worn in their appearance. Redd, being who she is and what she has gone through, I would not be surprised if some of that wickedness, her hatred, and whatever else spilled forth into her appearance.

I was talking on the phone with my movie producer sister, Dianna. I sent her a link to an actresses's website. I told her this actresss would make a perfect "Redd Heart" for the LGW movie. She got a good laugh! How about Alice Krige, from "Star-Trek: First Contact"? You know....the "Borg Queen"? :D Hey guys, let me know what you think. Mitchie

I dunno about America but I'm guessing it's very likely that they'll hold auditions in England, probably somewhere like London or Oxford... as that is where Alyss grows up...
I was thinking I'd love to audition for Alyss... cos if they've only just finished the script it'll be a good year at least before they even think of casting... I turn nineteen in a month and a half so hopefully I'll be perfect age! lol
However I look much younger than what I am... I'd really like Homburg Molly as well!... tho I'm guessing whoever plays Dodge will be hot! lolol

Not fair!!!!!
Americans should be able to audition, too.
Well, not saying they can't.
But it'd be wy to much to pay for a way to England, and staying, and back.
And, Americans can fake accents!
Even though I never imagined Alyss with an accent.....
If anything, the accent Alice has in American McGee's [wonderful] game.

I wanna be Cat. I'm fairly sure the Cat wouldn't have an accent. Mostly because it's a talking Cat. that's accent enough. But I wouldn't mind being Madigan either. That would be awesome. Cat or Madigan. I'm not nearly hot enough to be Dodge so I'm not even putting that on the list of wants.

Huh, I really can't imagine Alyss with an accent. Remember, she learned to speak in Wonderland, not England. She's not Alice, she's Alyss.

True, but she went there when she was seven. That's plenty enough time to get an accent by unconscious imitation of others. It might be significantly softer, but I wouldn't see it as impossible, especially since at seven she likely still only had a limited vocabulary, and she would likely hear/learn other words with that English dialect attached.
It's not uncommon for people to go to a foreign country for months, or even years at a time, then coming home to sound faintly like where they were visiting.

To people on Earth? Yes. Remember, Quigley noted that Alyss had a strange accent. However, it's hard to say how that minor trait will translate to the screen, especially since it's very likely that any 'fake accent' that would be developed for the movie would likely end up sounding like some known nationality.

Well, it isn't entirely impossible that she could have developed a British accent over time. Exposure to culture and dialect and all of that stuff. So we may see less accent in the beginning, but more later when she's an adult.

Teeheehee I'm 12 years old and would LOVE to be Alyss or Molly! I have had a bit of acting experience (quite a lot on stage), and not too long ago I auditioned for Lyra. I reached the last round - yay me lol! - and The Looking Glass Wars has been one of my fave books for some time. So far I've passed all my LAMDA acting exams with distinction, I hope I'd be good enough for the movie... doubt it though.
PLEASE ANSWER SOMEONE - what colour is Molly's hair??? I can't remember!:p

this is a bit strange, there's an alice movie being made and sarah michelle gellar is in it.
it's supposed to be based off the video game "Alice" along with the dark world theme.
...this isn't the movie we're talking about, are we?

Probably referring to the American McGee Alice, so nope, not Looking Glass Wars :)

It's not referring to Looking Glass Wars. Thank God :)
Anyway, LGW means something to everyone but in different ways as we all have our own imagination and so we imagine the imagination in the book our own way. When Frank was writing the book he probably imagined it differently to us but with slight similarities. The thing to remember is is that the book contains that childish imagination that we have when we are young but most of us lose when we grow up, but in the book the adults have the same imagination as a child and so we love remembering our childhood fantasies and our innocence and we can hang onto it that bit longer :)
...I'm done now! :p

OK, we've been talking about casting, how about the movie's other factors?
For one thing, the movie's 'look' is an important factor, considering what a visual medium cinema is. For example, Burton's Batman movie had interesting visuals, with Gotham as a dark monochrome place full of shadows, with the Joker's bright orange and green contrasting against his dismal backdrop. Contrast is the key here - pre-Redd Wonderland would use bright, shiny colours, contrasting with the dark shades of red in Wonderland after Redd's takeover. London would be mostly monochrome, to reenforce its mundanity in contrast to Alyss' world, and to create a Dickensian feel, while the countries Hatter searches will simply have dimmer lighting.
Speaking of look, CGI is obviously going to be used (Hatter's hat, some backdrops etc.), although I'd like the filmmakers to experiment with different kinds of special effects to make Wonderland more otherworldly. Return to Oz, for example, used animatronics, puppets and claymation for its menagrie and world, giving the film a strange, fantastical feel. It would be good to see animatronics or puppets used for the gwnooks and caterpillars, and perhaps a magician could be used for Alyss and Redd's imagination powers...I dunno.
As for the soundtrack, the filmmakers should refrain from using tracks from the book soundtrack (except for maybe the credits) and use a mainly instrumental soundtrack, from someone like Danny Elfman or Hans Zimmer, to give the film a more 'epic' feel.
As for the director, I'd probably consider Jerry Bruckheimer, who directed the Pirates of the Carribean movies so he's used to 'adventure' movies. Perhaps Chris Nolan; he directed Batman Begins and Memento so he knows how to make a serious, psychological film. Tim Burton's directed lots of surreal fantasy movies, but he'd probably do better with a McGee's Alice movie. One of the Harry Potter directors, who have now dealt with dark children's stories, coud be considered; Alfonso Cuarón, who directed Prisoner of Azkaban, would probably be my choice out of that lot.
And I can't think of anything else...

My thoughts on the upcoming LGW's film. I hope they cast some very tallented actors WHO CAN REALLY ACT, not just hired to LOOK the PART. Digital or film....I'd like the old school film, but if Frank has the finacial backing, then go all digital. Musical score, I'd like a very lyrical score, with a couple of themes for the main characters. Most of the music would be in compound time meters.... 3/4...... 6/8.......12/ 4 etc.... alot of chromatic notes to play with, cause this is a Fantasy film. Queen of Hearts theme would be in a minor mode....Dodge and Alyss's theme will be in a Major mode. Redd's motif will sound rather "Wagner" like an opera leitmotif, starting with an Augmented chord (Think the Death Star Theme) Battle March music for the Card Soldiers. French Horn music for the Hatter. I think the production will be a real hoot for the folks making the movie, as well as all the fans keeping up with the progress online:) Take care! And LONG LIVE QUEEN ALYSS!:D Mitchie

when u said this i couldn't help but think of that movie called "pan's labyrinth" (for of those of you who haven't seen it, it a really dark children's fairy tale)when i imagine alyss in london, that's the kind feel i got from book because she felt so out of place and was trying to escape somehow with her imagination.

True point. Then again, we don't know really what "Wonderlandian" sounds like, so it's hard to say what nationality she would sound similiar to, if any.
Now as she got older, I'm sure her speech would be influenced by her English environment significantly. In fact, I would not be surprised if it seemed funny to her Wonderland counterparts when she returned after 13 years of British school and language!

I am a passionate thespian, and my dream is to be in films. I couldn't believe it when I read on the flyleaf of SEEING REDD that Frank Beddor was working on a script! I have since been checking this site religiously waiting for any audition information to be posted. I would love to play Molly, because she's closest to my age, but if not that, then an early teenage version of Alyss would be awesome as well (even if there were no lines and it were only part of a montage of her growing up in Oxford).
I can't wait to know when and where the auditions are! I would be willing to travel almost anywhere for them. I might have to work on my parents, though...
