Songs That Remind You Of...

I have to ask, have any of you ever heard a song that just randomly reminded you of LGW? I was listening to 'Hear You Me' by Jimmy Eat World and it always makes me think about the book. Any similar experiences? :confused:

Well, my choices are a bit unconventional... I personally connect LGW to two songs, both composed by Japanese artist Yuki Kajiura. The first, "Pearls", is performed by Ilaria Graziano in Italian. I've never been able to find a translation of the lyrics, but the song nonetheless reminds me of the elder Alyss. If I can find a link that'll let people sample it I'll post it here.

The second song is "Salva Nos", performed by Japanese soprano Yuri Kasahara. There are multiple versions of this song; the one I prefer is the 6-minute sung in a rock opera style, and considering the title ('Save Us' in Latin) I found it appropriate for the 13 years of Redd's reign. More Human Than Human - Rob Zombie: There is a particular mix I have that reminds me of the Cat.

Fields of Innocence - Evanescence: Kind of an Alyss/Dodge thing...leaning to the Alyss perspective.

To Myself I Turned - Lacuna Coil: Another Alyss-type song to me, especially around the time she starts to doubt and even renounce her Wonderland heritage.

Hell's Bells - AC/DC: If Redd had a car, I think she'd play this at full blast, especially the beginning.

I'm sure there would be more, but I have to sort through the collection to be sure.

**It just seems so like that he was thinking and going through while she was gone. Angel from his nightmares...she was the angel in his nightmares about what happened the day she disappeared. Shadow in the background of the morgue...obvious, no one knew if she was truly dead or not, though they suspected it. From there I think you can decipher what I was thinking, but I just like how the song echos what Dodge went through.**

As far as just score music. I often think of Midnight Syndicate intrumental scores playing in the background of battles and...anything really, I just love their sound and it fits so well with ceratin parts of the book. You can listen to the music and see scenes play out from the book. It's cool that you can listen to them and just SEE what part of the book they would be perfect for. A few that I like from Midnight Syndicate for the book are: Halls of Insurrection, Alternative Therapy, Gates of Delirium (I think of Redd brooding) and Winged Fury.

I have others, but that's the only one I can pull to my mind at this time. I'll post another time for others.

There's another kid out there, can't think of where I found him, who has been drumming since he was a baby. I think he's two now and has done public appearances and stuff. Sadly, I've forgotten his website.

Everything That You Ever Wanted by Hawk Nelson made me think of Dodge and how he was striving to be an example like his father but his emotions on killing The Cat got the better of him. The lyrics for the chorus are down below.

Another song I though of was I'm Not Alright by Sanctus Real. It made me think of how Alyss and Doge weren't "alright" and how they each needed somebody, whether it was their parents or each other. Here is the complete lyrics for that song.

I don't know about you guys, but I very recently discovered a singer by the name of Mandi Perkins, whose debut album is called "Alice In No Man's Land." The title song is cool, and not only contains tons of AiW references, but makes me think of when Alyss was in London. When it says "...look to the Queen of Hearts for an answer..." I think of Alyss wanting to talk to Geniveve for advice and wanting a mother's shoulder to cry on.

I know a lot of it is very UN-Redd, such as the whole bit about stealing stuff on the run (Redd never did that!) But the whole bit about swiping stuff from Church reminds me of Redd's obvious disrespect for the, well, pretty much the religion of Wonderland- White Imagination. And the way she ends up using the boys and then dumping them is just... IDK... kinda Reddish. It reminds me about how she would sneak out to hang with Arch but obviously never honestly cared for him. Not to mention the whole bit about how the mother warned her about being idle leads into trouble.

For some reason, whenever I hear "Stop and Stare" by One Republic, I think of LGW. Maybe it's just because I was listening to that song a lot when I was reading the books, but also the whole message of the song, which I take to be kind of like moving forward is like the attitude of all the good guys who are making one last push to get Alyss to power once she returns to Wonderland.

Also, this song "Taking Chances" by Celine Dion reminds me of a lot of the characters in LGW. The whole "taking chances" and "jumping off the edge" without knowing where you're going to land makes me think of the entire Alyssian resistance. Other parts make me think of Hatter and Molly, Dodge, and Alyss. I'll put the parts that make me think of Dodge in green, Alyss in pink, and Molly to Hatter in blue.

Particularly what you said about the music video... in fact I am going to post a link for anyone who would like to see it, because it's a beautiful song and a very lovely video. Come to think of it, there's two young people in the video that are shown as being in love, only it's kind of like forbidden. Screaming Alyss/Dodge right about now! It's the first Coldplay song I've ever heard but I really really like it. I can't believe it's taken me this long to make the LGW connection. I was sitting in the car and it was on and then when it was saying the part "It was the wicked and wild wind blew down the doors to let me in; shattered windows and the sound of drums, people couldn't believe what I'd become" and I just got this image in my head of when Redd first breaks into Heart Palace. And then of course it goes right to "Revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate" and I was like, Genevive!

Why would it have to be a secret? She's a member of the Millinery, after all. If she were to date some Milliner, it might be frowned upon by other Milliners, but I don't think it would be as extreme as Hatter/Weaver so as to be kept secret.

But yeah. I always saw Molly starting to date when she was in, like, her middle twenties. Right now she's far too busy. Besides, Molly wouldn't be the type of girl who would just want to run out and go on dates as soon as she was old enough.

I think he'd be protective, but try not to let it show. You know, like threaten the guy when Molly's not around. (Now that I think about it, Hatter threatening anyone is a bit scary). It's been quite a few years since I've been able to go see anything live. :( I used to be able to go up to Stratford in Canada every year and see really awesome live performances. Now my homeschool group doesn't arrange those anymore because you need a passport to get from the States to Canada.

I might go back to Canada later on this year, though! :) Yay! Vacation!

HAh well a one act is a play with only one act. it runs about 55 minmutes. We compete against a bunch of other schools. It's a blast! It's just a normal play that the director cuts down to 55 minutes.
