Okay this is kind of irrelevant but it's been bothering me since I read the book.
How old is Homburg Molly?????
Weaver gave birth to her AFTER Hatter left.
Hatter was gone for 13 years.
After Hatter returned, he made Homburg Molly Alyss's bodygaurd.
Give or take six months- year.
Does that mean Homburg Molly is 14?
I mean, I know Wonderlanders aren't exactly like regular people, and she is half milliner, which I guess makes a difference, but I just didn't think she was that young.
Does anyone else know?
Thanks.

I think its safe to assume shes 13/14 ^.^

And if you think about it, dangerous situations cause teens to 'grow up' a lot faster...Redd's rule being no exception. And Hatter had instinct about her abilities, and trusted her enough to find her approriate..until further notice anyhow.

Thats true.
I guess kind of like how 16 year olds can be in the Army.
I just thought it was odd but then again, I always picture her being older, like physically, when I think about her.
Did anyone else feel like there wasn't enough Weaver?
Like, in the begining, I was all like awwwwwwwwwwww Hatter....
(Cuz lets be honest, Hatter is freaking awsome)
But then when they did bring her back, it just seemed a little flat to me.
But I did love the plot twist, although I feel dumb for not realizing it sooner.
By the way, what exactly makes a Milliner a Milliner? Like, are they a different like, species of person? Or is it just like being born a Noble?

Volrath mentions that some Wonderlanders have unique powers. I would guess that Milliner is like a power that is passed on by birth.

I was a little confused about that myself, particularly as Weaver's recording used the term 'genocide' to describe Redd's goal of exterminating the Millinery. Does make them sound like a different race, huh?
Having thought about it, I'd say it's a little of both. I think it's like, they have special talents that have been honed over time and are able to be genetically passed on. But at the same time, it sounds like it's being run like a huge organization. *shrug*

I'm re-reading the series, so I might be able to answer this later, but I think it said somewhere in Seeing Redd that Homburg Molly is 13. So I think she's 13but in the next book,I think either at some point she'll turn 14 or she'll already be 14 at the start of the book.

Molly's 13. Thus states the book:
"...You're too young to be working in a place like this."
"I'm thirteen. Old enough, I think. And lucky to be working at all."
Although, according to a discussion about misprinted dates in the timeline, we have figured that she is either very close to turning 13 or else just turned 13.

Hey guys. I know this is a little off topic from Homburg Molly's age, but it's still about our favorite halfer. I looked up the name origin for the name Molly. It could mean bitter or sorrowful. The way that could work for her is that she's though herself an orphan for ten years in the Alyssian camp and she had no clue who her father was. Even if Molly's not one to let herself greive too much, that would be a little depressing. Molly's not bitter but I do say that, at times, the sorrowful could work. Just a thought :)
P.s I still think Molly's awesome!

YAAAAAAAY someone else to join the Molly fan club here on the forums! Welcome welcome! We don't do much except for three main things: 1) We make sure to put it ALL OVER THE FORUMS about how awesome Molly is; 2) We throw rocks at anyone who dares to argue with us, and 3) We throw rocks at each other whenever the topic comes up of "who will get the part of Molly in the movie."
So welcome!
Oh, and I think it's totally cool what you found out about her name. And I think both variations could work. Sorrowful, for the obvious reasons you pointed out... she was an orphan and was always looked down at because she's a Halfer, but also bitter because as soon as I read that I immediately thought of this line from Seeing Redd (Page 114):
"Her sass and occasional disregard for his opinions could have been either the lashing out of a bitter daughter or the antagonism of a teen determined to elbow a space for herself in the adult world."
(The bold emphasis added)
'Tis quite interesting.

Sweet! Yes, I totally think it fits! Because, honestly, Molly has been given the short end of the stick in many regards.
1. She's a young teenager.
2. She's a girl.
3. She's a Halver.
4. She was orphaned for ten years.
Any one of those first three things would mean that she has to work extra hard for people to take her seriously, but all of them combined make for a formidable hurdle to clear, which could easily lead to some bitterness and sorrow.

So true. Except the only part that wouldn't have been a hardship for her is her being a Wonderlandinan girl. If she'd been born in Boarderland, then it would've been hard. Good thing both her parents are from Wonderland! In Wonderland men and women are pretty equal. But the Halfer-ness would be a big enough set back, I mean for cripe's sake Hatter (her own father [of course he didn't know that] was steryotypical toward her). Teenagers are often catogorized as irresponsible and unruly, so there's another hardship for Molly (Luckily that's temporary). The whole orphan thing would definatly bring you down emotionally so yep, there's that too. But in a lot of ways, I like how she takes it all. If someone gets on her case for being a halfer, she pokes fun at them (like the quote in my signature). So to me she's a mix of bitter and sorrowful, and someone to joke about it.

Absolutely. She had a lot of things working against her... it would give anyone a case of the downers at times!

I see what you mean, TEGA, but even though she's a Wonderlander she still has the Halfer thing against her. In Wonderland, I think Halfers are really looked at as kind of "less"... especially by the Millinery.
And when someone says something to her about being a Halfer... I don't think that was "poking fun" that she did back to Hatter at the tavern. The phrases in your sig were something that I always thought she said to Hatter just to tick him off because he'd ticked her off. When he was going on about how you can't tust Halfers, she just basically said that she didn't care what he thought, she only cared about what Alyss thought. I just never got the feeling that she was poking fun. I always thought she was very very serious.

Good point. I still love how she "burned" Hatter like that. It was funny.:p:D
Now this I found very wierd and I need to tell it to someone. I hang out with an even mix of guys and girls at my school, and this is the wierd thing... Most of my guy friends, thought that Homburg Molly was hot! It was a little weird. I showed them the picture from the paperback of Seeing Redd.

Anyhoo. One thing I really like about the LGW series is the friendship between Alyss and Molly. I like how Alyss understands Molly in the sense of how she knows what it feels like to be a part of two worlds, but not fully belonging to either. And I love how, in some ways, Alyss looks out for Molly as a little sister. What do you guys think?

Thank you for bringing this up! Yes, I love Alyss and Molly's relationship as well. And it's great how you compare their experiences as both being "part of two worlds, but not fully belonging to either." I always figured that Molly looked up to Alyss more than she does to Hatter. At least, before she knew Hatter was her dad, and maybe even afterwards, too. Just because of the way Alyss treats Molly and acts as if she really is a full-fledged member of the Millinery and not just a Halfer.

Well, it's been awhile...
I've been turning over a thought in my head. It first came to me when theTWiNZ were saying how they're indifferent to Homburg Molly, and that them and a few other people can't quite understand what's so huge about her to people like myself and HM_F (to name a few). Well... I've come up with a reason why Homburg Molly may be such a big character to us.
I think the reason Molly is such a big character to some of us is because, if you think about it, she's the only character we actually see going through adolescence. With Alyss, you sort of only see the beginning and then end of her time on Earth, concidentally being the time of her adolescence and a little beyond. Same with Dodge. But Molly on the other hand is introduced when she's thirteen, and we've seen how she acts and feels, and it may reminds us of how we were/are as teens. We understand Molly because of how she has a thirst to prove herself, but at other times, she doubts herself. Also Molly can end up feeling angry/confused a few times in the story. I don't know about you guys, but I've felt like that before. So my point is that, I think the reason a lot of us like Homburg Molly so much is because, at some point in our lives, we've related to her.
Well, there's my huge rant. :D

Well, that's a good point with the whole adolesence thing.
It's not MY reasons for liking Molly (I don't WANT to remember those awkward years, thank ya much! LOL) but a very well thought out point.
Main thing is- I relate to her not because she's going through adolesence, but because INSIDE, she's very much like me, regardless of what time period she might be going through. And outside, too, for that matter. Face it, we're both loudmouths who let our emotions show a lot, won't back down without a fight, and speak (or yell!) our minds without giving a stinkin' care as to what other people may think.
Deeper- Molly is different. We are all different to some degree, but I'm... different from my other friends. Sometimes it makes me feel awkward; sometimes it makes me get left out. (theTWiNZ know what I speak of! They've heard enough of my laments to last them both their lifetimes.) Molly, as a Halfer, has had to deal with these sorts of things, so I "connect" (does it seem weird to connect with a fictional character? LOL) with her on that level.
When I'm reading Molly, I think what she thinks and would do almost exactly as she does in most of the situations presented to her. I like Molly because she and I are so much alike (except she's cooler! XD) that it's almost like it could be me on that page. I feel what she feels; and not just because she's gone through a stage that I've gone through in my lifetime. Because I know Molly's mind. Because I can LIVE the book through her eyes; knowing exactly what she's thinking and feeling and experiencing.
Ta dah! Know all y'all know why I am HomburgMolly_Fan. :)

Ahhh. *wipes tears form eyes* Such lovely speeches you make, Homburger. :D So I read that three times and each time afterwards I said "Wow."
Looking back on LGW, on all the things I've read, I don't think I have EVER connected with characters on such a deep level. Unless reading my own stories count. Hehehe. There's not much to say on that except that I am Rohin and that I am Tock, which you already know. =P
And you of course are Mollums. LOL. ^.^
Ooooooh! *claps hands and giggles like a five-year-old around sparklers* Me likey! :D
Hmmm.

LOL. Yeah, I get pretty deep into my characters. BUT, you're exaggerating. My speeches leave MUCH to be desired. XD
Thanks though. :)

ok. second time typing this up because my internet decided to die and delete my super long post before. *crosses fingers*
I guess that would make sense that most would like her because she is the only adolescent character in the series. Which makes me realize I never do favor the teen characters in mostly any story. So that would probably be a good reason as to why I don't have a strong liking for Molly.
Another thing, I usually don't favor the character that I relate to the most. I'm drawn to characters with character...if that makes sense. And Molly doesn't have that much character to me compared to other characters in the series.
(I also tend to like the "random" characters in stories, but that's another story.)
They've heard enough of my laments to last them both their lifetimes.) ok. so you relate to her also because she's gone through similar things as you do. I think the reason why I don't take interest in Homburg Molly as much as you guys is because I don't classify favorable characters in relation to my experiences.
Ok. here. let me rant. Homburg Molly. Her first impression on me was at the bar and she came off quite disrespectful and annoying. But I let her slide because she said she was 13. Yes, I know I'm being ageist. sorry, but I'll admit I was quite the little brat when I was 13. Image was definitely a thing I thought I had down at that age, but let's face it, I was very immature at 13 even though I thought I was acting mature. And I think the same goes for Molly. Oh look! I found something that I related to with her. But I really didn't like my 13-year-old self...the years I really want to forget. So another reason why she's not my favoritest character. :p But don't start thinking I don't favor her because I don't want to remember my past. It's because she is just that annoying to me. She's very demanding and doesn't want to listen to reason--just hers. She holds this pest-ish attitude all the way into the second book.
But at the very end of Seeing Redd, she matures greatly to me which is why I put her higher on my favorites list. She realizes at the end how much she was so immature and demanding. She let go of everything at the end of Seeing Redd. Molly basically relieved herself of her Millinery post because she doesn't think she deserves it. I just think she realizes that she can't be who she thought she wanted to be. If that makes sense. And right then, her character built up for me--she was getting on my good side! But she didn't cut it all the way...well, because the book ended! So I guess I just have to wait until ArchEnemy comes out to determine what I definitely think of Homburg Molly.
So it's not that I don't like her. I just don't like her character as much as others.
I could say much more, but I think I've stated my point. ;)

I do believe you have stated my point as well.
Not much else I can say. I don't really remember when I started liking Homburger Molly, because it was gradual; but maybe after the seventh time reading both books I think that might have been when I started to like her character. Obviously, I would like her because she's Hatter's little girl, but parts of her were a bit immature.
But she is very much like her father at the end of Seeing Redd, kicking herself out of the Millinery because she doesn't feel deserving.
Let's just hope that she can smack Hatter hard enough for him to change his mind about taking her to Earth. Unless Molly herself is the one wanting to get away. I really doubt it, but we can't really tell from the darn cliffhanger at the end of Seeing Redd. It's like all the emotions were sliced off from the rest of the book at the very end there. Gah.
End of rambling post. XD
