I've gone around the site and listed the most popular names thrown in for playing Redd Heart. Which actress shall we choose? This poll is based on the most mentioned names and similarities to Redd in apperance and acting skills.

I can't picture Idina playing Redd; she's seems too nice despite her role in Wicked (which she doesn't seem evil in in the first place).
Whoever gets picked should be changed to look almost unrecognizably evil. In The Looking Glass Wars, I always got the impression that Redd was slightly bald. And old.

Out of those I'd have to say Helena Bonham Carter.

I honestly don't like any of the above mentioned as Redd...

I'll get back to you on who I would choose though.

I had thought about Michelle Pfiefer playing her, but Michelle is too old...

Honestly, I can't say who would play a good Redd--no one seems good enough for my favorite character XD

I finally found the lady i think would make a good redd.. but I have to find her name better.

Its Miranda.. something.

Miranda Richardson.. I think she'd be good..

While she might be a little big for the role, I would not be against Angelina Jolie. Two words: "Girl Interrupted" :D

I still have yet to see Angelina Jolie in a movie.

But to me she doesn't seem to look right for the role. (to me..)

Oh! Oh! I have pictures! Yay

they aren't the best but this is Miranda Richardson

That's from Snow White. (I haven't actually seen this movie.. >.<)

From Merlin

(She looked better as Mab.)

Sleepy Hollow
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/miranda.jsrpages/pics2/2mrlsh.jpg

And I know those are older movies, but she's still pretty.
She was also Madame Giry in the Phantom of the Opera.. That's a bit newer than the other ones if you want to search for pictures.

But yeah, that's who I think would make a good Redd.

She does seem to play a lot of regal roles...

I like her as an actress, but her face seems too small for me(to play redd). >.<
She'd play a good older Alyss...

Loki
03-09-2008, 01:55 AM
so i guess we can say Helena could play Redd because of the childish villinas side of Redd. and Miranda Richardson can play more of the look of Redd and the ecentricities of her adult side. kind of hard to decide after such complelling arguments but i still want Helena, when i read the book, i only imagined her playing Redd.

not a problem, I'm not too fond of her myself, that's why I'd cast her as Alyss for an example.

And it would be quite hard for someone to jump through Carter.. O.o Imagine whoever it was playing Hatter just jumping. There'd be too much blood and screaming. Too messy for my tastes. Lol

Well when I thought about "what role would I let her play, if I were calling the shots?"

My mind went all Family Guy on me, and she was just this nasty puddle on the ground that everyone was walking on, but she had eyes and was talking to all the other actors.

And Peter was the cat. HAHAHAHAHA

Hi all :) Out of the actresses named i had to say Helena because she's experienced in the wierd and the wonderful however i think it would be nice for the cast to be fresh, unknown people, so that there are no pre-made opinions of the actresses or actors and we can concentrate on the characters themselves :)

Ok Haven't you seen Sweeney Todd or Harry Potter 5 Helena Boham Carter is Red! She looks right she's the right age and she's been in alot of weird movies she could totally do Redd perfectly

Molly_Madigan
06-22-2008, 01:01 AM
I honestly don't think she's right for it. Have you ever watched Merlin? Or perhaps, if you'd like a movie with Johny Depp in it, Sleepy Hollow? There are much better actresses out there. I totally and utterly opposed the playing of Redd with an actress that has problem saying certain words. I've never imagined her with a lisp (HBC has one.. It annoys me every movie she's in!!) so I honestly think the best choice would not be her.

I'm still holding for Miranda Richardson~

AlyssH
06-23-2008, 01:43 PM
You all keep saying "She's the right age," or "No, she'd be too old," and stuff like that about different actresses for the part of Redd. Now I'd like everyone to stop and think for a minute about how old Redd actually is. I have a few points I'd like you to keep in mind when picturing Redd's age:

1) She is older than Queen Genevieve. She was supposed to rule Wonderland, but then her mother removed her from succession and gave the throne to her younger sister, Genevieve.

2) Genevieve had to be about thirty when Redd staged her coup. Most people don't (purposefully) have children until they're in their twenties (unless it's different in Wonderland). Alyss was seven when her mother was killed, therefore Genevieve must have been close to--if not older than--thirty. This puts Redd at least a couple years older than that.

3) Alyss was gone for thirteen years before returning to Wonderland. If we conservatively put Redd at about thirty-five at the time of her coup, she would be forty-eight when Alyss returned, probably closer to fifty.

So do the math, people, before deciding that an actress isn't the right age to play Redd.

Just thought I'd point that out.

I have a reserved agreement, only because FB himself says that Redd's age is her mid to late 30's when I asked him about it. So most of the above with a few years shaved back.

I have my personal perfect person to play Her Imperial Viciousness: Femke Janessen. Particularly the way she looked in the third x-men movie.

Oh yeah!! She would be pretty good! Maybe, they might have to age hr just a tad though.

General_Arnold
07-25-2008, 03:49 AM
Possibally, depending on who they have play Queen Genevive. I mean I'm personally hoping for Kate Beckinsale to play her, and if that works out, then they won't have to age her that much...

bellabong95
07-25-2008, 01:08 PM
Yeah, I agree! Why do you want Kate Beckinsale to play Genevieve?

General_Arnold
07-25-2008, 10:26 PM
For a multitude of reasons. First off she's a fantastic actress! Secondly, I've always invisioned Genevive as looking a bit like her. She's old enough, but still looks young and pure, as Genevive should. Finally, I think it would be interesting seeing as how she's played the part of Alice in "Alice through the Looking Glass" some years ago.

I also think that Femke Janssen and Kate Beckinsale would play well off eachother, though granted, Kate wouldn't be in it for long. However I wonder how difficult it would be (especially with today's technology), to have Kate also play the older Alyss. It's doubtful, but I think it could work.

bellabong95
07-25-2008, 11:31 PM
yeah... it could, but I think it wuold be better if they casted two different actresses! You must REALLY like Kate Beckinsale!! =D

General_Arnold
07-26-2008, 07:43 AM

07-26-2008, 09:22 AM
yeah, what movies has she been in? I caN'T REMEMBE HER IN ANY AND i WANT TO SEE IF i THINK SHE WOULD BE GOOD FOR gENVEIVE. Oops, sorry I accidentally hit caps lock.

yeah, one person would just be cutting it too close!

General_Arnold

Kate Beckinsale has been in: Underworld, Underworld: Evolution, Click (w/ Adam Sandler), Alice Through the Looking Glass, Vacancy, Van Helsing, Pearl Harbor.

I think she's got the right personality and right attitude to play Genevive. Like I said I've always picture Genevive as looking slightly like her, plus her and Femke Janssen look just enough alike to be belived they were sisters, but yet different enough to account for Redd's evilness.

I don't know if these actress' have been mentioned yet but in all honesty I have to say that Meryl Streep as Redd and Nicole Kidman as Queen Genevieve would be fantastic. Both are well trained, extremely talented and would be believable as the characters.

She's kinda good at Redd, ain't she? I think she's a bit...old?

Angelica Huston would be my all-time favorite, but she's just a bit too old for Redd...grr. Couldn't she be a bit younger?! I'll have to go searching around for who I think would be a good Redd....

We're_all_mad_here

Miranda has already played a version of the Queen of Hearts in the live action Hallmark Alice in Wonderland. Of course, it's a totally different concept, Redd and the Queen of Hearts, but I'm sure that someone else would do Redd a little more justice than her.

For a role like this, i believe it would be wise to cast an unknown.

General_Arnold
08-19-2008, 06:52 PM

Even if the actress has played a very small background role in another show, to give them their first lead in this would be good, but you are right, talent is a make or break for Alyss! YAY FOR GEEKDOM! So let's see that gives us Kingdoms, Queendoms and GEEDOMS! We rule....

Anyway. They need to take their time casting everyone. This could go really well, or really really badly depending on who they cast and how much effort they put into it.

lol YESSSS!!! =D

yeah seriously! If they cast someone who is totally cheesy or just really bad at acting that part then I will be TICKED!!! lol I really hope that this movie will make it because its just so......well... UTTERLY AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!! =D

Has anyone seen Something About Mary? the other movie FB did because I haven't and I want to know if he did a good job... if he did a good job with that one then he will probably do good on this one!

AlyssH
08-25-2008, 01:59 PM

Honestly can't say as I've seen it, but I've heard good things about it, so there's hope.

bellabong95
08-25-2008, 10:44 PM

General_Arnold
08-26-2008, 10:22 AM
True, but as I said, and I think it was agreed, that well knowns for the adult parts would be ok, Alyss would be the unknown.

As I said about "Something about Mary" From what I've heard it's good, though I have not seen it myself. Plus we have one other thing going for us, the author of the book is writing the screen-play, which means more of the movie will end up in the book than normally does when the author has nothing to do with it. Again there's hope....

bellabong95
08-26-2008, 11:22 AM
yeah! I've also heard it was good and there DEFINATELY is hope!! =D thats such a good point, I hate it when they cut the book up a lot and take out scenes... maybe this will actually be a movie that's better than the book?! It doesn't happen often, but then again neither does the writer being the screen-play as well....

AlyssH
08-26-2008, 05:58 PM
Yeah, the other thing about Frank Beddor writing the screenplay is that if thing have to be changed for one reason or another, he'll at least make changes that are closer to the heart of the story. Because who would know better what a story is all about than its creator?

I can see Angelica Houston, Indina Menzel and Michelle Phipher as Redd. All the others (whoever set up this poll) are either too young looking or to old looking. I am REALLY out of the loop because I had to google all these actors in order to vote.

Yeah, the other thing about Frank Beddor writing the screenplay is that if thing have to be changed for one reason or another, he'll at least make changes that are closer to the heart of the story. Because who would know better what a story is all about than its creator?

that is SO true! Have either of you met frank beddor? at school or a comicon or anything?!

I haven't. I agree with Queen Alyss Anders, though. If changes had to be made for film time or something he'll know exactly what to change and how to do it. But there is still room for director interpertation, so my hope is that Mr. Beddor is planning on staying on hand to prevent that from happening. Also, I hope he has at least some hand in the casting. Who would know the characters better than him....

I haven't met Frank Beddor either. *tear* I really super want to, though! He never seems to come to my neck of the woods. :(

'Least you're closer. If he ever comes to England, I'll possibly be there... depends on work... (yes, that's right, kiddies, I have a job, it's rubbish but it pays the bills!)

And if not, I'll have to try fork out however much it is to go to America, get a hotel room booked, get a ticket for Comicon...

Ah, but he does go to England! You can check out the photos from his various book tours right here on the website. So you can't really whine, Loiterer.

By the way, I don't mean to pry, but what exactly is it you do for a job? Just...(okay, can't resist)...curiouser and curiouser.

Fine, if he does another promo tour anywhere near me, I shall make an effort to go along.

As for my job I have a part-time job stack shelves and slacking off in a local supermarket called Morrisons. And it's so odd some days, I've found myself writing a comedy series based in a similar place...

Well, you know what the teacher tells you when you're in elementary school (what is it for you? Primary school? something like that): "Write about what you know and care about."

I'm not quite so sure about the caring bit in your case, but the knowing certainly applies.

You'd said that if changes had to be made to the script, it was better that he do them because he knows the story better than anyone. That's what I was agreeing with.

Don't you dare mention that waste of celluloid in my presence again! As soon as Burton left the Bat-franchise and gave it to Schumacher, it bombed! However, Schumacher did a good job with Falling Down...

Anyway, for Redd I think that Rachel Weisz would be good. It'd be interesting to see if she could pull off a petulant, bossy, bitchy redhead. Also it'd be nice to see her as a villain!

Out of those I'd have to say Helena Bonham Carter.

I agree after her preformance in Sweeney Todd [Once again mispelled] she just seems like an amazing actress. [not that she wasen't before]

I think Helena Bonham Carter is the best choice. In alot of the animated movies she's voiced, I never think "Oh, that is so obviously Helena Bonham Carter". I know those are only animated, but it goes to show how much she can change herself for a certain character.

Besides, doesn't she look a little "Redd-ish" to you?
