Honestly couldn't think of a better title for the thread, but anyway.

I want this to be like a constructive crit. thread for the book. I did enjoy it, however, I did find some parts not to my liking...

For example, the catapillars. Now is it just me or does anyone else think they come off as teenage stoners? To me they did, and IMO, it really threw the tone. You have all this parallel, almost crystalline-Victorian era world, and then some modern American stoned catapillars. Which to me, just don't seem to fit. Even by Wonderland standards.

Anyone else know what I mean? Or does anyone else have moments they don't think seem right in the books?

Given the target age group, I'd not be entirely surprised that people know someone, or a group of someones, as like the caterpillars. I know I can. Some of them are my mother's friends *chuckle*

But that's just me :)

I think my only 'off' thing (and as mentioned, not a complaint) is that Molly, for as cool as she is, well, her status in regards to Hatter was a bit too obvious. Granted, we had to wait until Book 2 to know about it, but someone going from one to the next is going to figure it out pretty fast.

Aye, unfortunately the Molly thing was ruined for me by Wikipedia...

although, I do see where you're coming from. And on the stoner thing, the ones I know, (I nor, probably the LGW forums peoples in no way advocate drug abuse. So not do it!) are, obviously all English and don't act or sound like Keanu under the influence... So it did stop the pace and tone dead for me when I heard them talk... And also my idea of Oracles is less out-of-their-head anyway...

Ah, I know what you mean with the Caterpillars. I kept seeing Lynier's Brother puffing from a hookah.

The bit that was craptastic to me was when they gave Hatter back his love only to take it cruely away in front of his eyes.

And they turned the cat into a pathetic thing. He was so awesome in the beginning.. and then was kind of stupid and pathetic... >.<

I was quite tiffed at that. (i have a few others but I'll save this and make this post short. Lol)

I tried not to take the smoking caterpillers the wrong way 'cause in Alice in Wonderland that's the way it originally is. But it was slightly weird in both books, hehe.

Yeah, and the Molly thing is waaay too obvious. I haven't read the second book yet, but I made the connection when it mentioned that she dressed like Hatter, lol.

Well........................

at first I liked the jumping through puddles bit.....but it seemed so very familiar...and then I started thinking about The Chronicles of Narnia.....yup. Didn't they do that too? Meh I might be remembering wrong it's been a while.

But I hate it when I remember elements of stories that other stories have done. Even if it IS really fitting.

As if I could think of anything better though. LOL

I agree. Molly and Hatters secret was a bit too obvious. *Sigh* ah well.

Yeah, the cat was SOO cool in the first one, and then in the 2nd one, it was as if just lost all his..."pep." Maybe it's b/c he lost so many of his lives, but come on! He's vicious! He's a super-cat!!! He's supposed to be this killing machine, but does he even kill anyone in the 2nd one?

Yes. He killed his personality in the first book.

Yes. He killed his personality in the first book.

Which is really sad since the Cat is one of my favorite characters....hopefully he brings his personality back to life in the 3rd (and final :( ) one

He'll have to defend himself though I think he is going to die. *Sighs* Good character, but he'll turn to his murdering self again.

Not everyday you get to say that.

Which is fine with me :D I like him being a murderer...sometimes. Depends on my mood--am I feeling nice or violent? Normally it's violent, so I prefer the murdering "kitten".

Oh, I love the cat, but it totally was craptastic when he started to suck. (for lack of a better word that I can type. Lol)
And I know he's going to die, but I would honestly love if he could somehow keep his last life and run away, betraying Redd..
But that's probably only because I love it when people who are really close to someone just betrays them and leaves them for dead. Its so.. Dramatic.

-sigh- I love a good story..
