View Full Version : How long was Redd on Mt. Isolation?

For the life of me, I can't find how long she was up there.

I know she was on the throne for about 13 years, (Alyss was 7 when Redd took over, and came back at age 20), but I'm not getting a firm age on when she was sent to the Mountain. Playing with the random age of 37 as her "latest age" as it were (FB has informed me that Redd is roughly in her 30's now), she would have been 24 when she took over Heart Castle. Assuming she had to be about 15-17 when she was sent away, that gives me a rough estimate of about 7-9 years.

I am betting that SOMETHING is out there that I'm missing, but the initial scan of the books isn't giving me much. :P

There is a small reason for this that I can't go into quite yet. If I can't get the time on Mt. Isolation, I'll settle for her throne time, but I'm particularly interested in that confinement. ;D

You're forgetting that there was a twelve year period between her first and second attempts at a takeover.

Did she attempt a takeover as soon as her mother removed her from succession, or did she wait? I can't remember. >>

Hope that helps, though.

I think I read that she was on Mt. Isolation for 13 years. I don't remember where though. :(

Hmmm.. so there was another takeover on top of the one where she killed Nolan and Genevieve...?

Now I'm confused :)

I really need to just read from end to end again. I don't -think- she did much of anything after she killed Queen Theodora other than go to Mt. Isolation, at least, when I was looking at the discussion she had with Volrath. And heaven forbid, short of total re-read, that I could find mention of how long she actually -stayed- there, particularly before she killed off Genevieve.

The Years of Stewing, I like to call them :)

But what I really need is how long she was stuck in Mt. Isolation.

Ok, lemme see. Ok, she killed her mom, count about maybe a year after she was told she wasn't going to be queen, then they probably put her on Mt. Isolation. She was pretty young then, and her sister younger than her, so count on Redd being a teen, and Alyss's mom being just a year or so younger, so I'd say Gen was around maybe fifteen, she'd probably be married by twenty, and then Alyss would be born about a year after that so... 5+1+7= 13years on Mt. Isolation is my guess. Hope it helped.

It makes sense to me.

13 seems to be a recurring number, I've noticed.

As I recall, after she killed her mother she went to take the throne for herself. Except that Genevieve called up an army, so Redd called up an army, and there was a civil war. That was how the first book began, wasn't it? "The Queendom had been enjoying a tentative peace for twelve years, ever since unrivalled bloodshed had splashed the doorstep of every Wonderlander" or something along those lines.

Redd was defeated in that first war, and it took her twelve years to rebuild her army into something that was strong enough to attempt a second takeover. That was the one where she succeeded.

So twelve years originally + the thirteen where Mt. Isolation was her palace, as my memory serves.

AHA! Yes, that makes sense ;) Though I must admit, I don't remember there being any specifics on what that 'civil war' was on about. It would make sense to infer it was between Redd's supporters and Genevieve's however.

But yes. The magic number (in more than one way) seems to be 13. And with that, I can now say that my little bit of evil has been commenced correctly, and that I will let you know the results in about a month XD

Long enough to send her even further off the edge of sanity! Not that Redd ever was sane.....haaaa.

From her end of the world, she was fighting for what she was entitled to by birth and by her talents as she perceived them, which intriguingly enough, weren't far from accurate. She IS a powerful user of imagination, afterall :)

But in her eyes, she suffered at her family's hands. She felt that what she was supposed to be groomed for was unfairly stolen from her, and her retalliation was pretty harsh.

If she classifies in the mental disorder realm, I'd say she's got a few classic signs of being a sociopath ;D

I must agree with you, your Imperial Viciousness, Redd had it tough (from dreadfully behaving herself I might add) and she lashed out in pure style! Yup, sociopath suits her quite nicely :)!
