Third Book Speculation

So, what do we think is going to happen the fabled third book?

Personally, I have my suspicions about the girl in the third and fourth issues of Hatter M - everyone remember Edwina? The girl whose psychic energy could not be drained? Methinks that such a talent could come in handy in a Wonderland devoid of imagination.

We've had Hatter M's villains - now I say, bring on the allies!

What are YOUR thoughts on what could happen?

I say that Weaver comes back or Hatter dies. Because its just not right giving someone everything and then taking it all away again.. Plus if it goes in the way of old Greek Tragedy's(which to me it seems to be) then Everything will be taken from Hatter and then at the end things will turn out okay.

But defiantly lots of death and destruction..

I think that Redd is actually going to get stabbed in the back by Arch and then is going to kill him herself.. But is going to then get killed herself.

Also I want things to happen that I can't really type and know won't be written about because I'm a very bad person. Lol

Actually, my HOPE UPON HOPE is that one of my many friends going to San Diego will be able to get info (OFFICIAL, not this rumored Wikipedia business) of what Book 3 will be titled.

The timing would be apt...FB's a special guest at Comic-Con, it's been a bit since "Seeing Redd" came out, the paperback hit stores (or will soon)....

I'll report what anyone tells me because I can't be there to get the info myself.

Here's what I think:

After Hatter convinces Molly that she is still a valuable warrior, they both return from Talon's Point and rejoin the others.

Later, limited Imagination powers will return. Both Alyss and Redd will be able to imagine small things, like tarty-tarts.

...And of course, Dodge *finally* kills The Cat. But not before almost dying himself.

And Redd dies too. Arch is killed by the Boarderland Tribes.

At the end of the book, there is a party celebrating the winning of the war, as well as Alyss and Dodge's marriage.

I kind of think that Alyss will get her Imagination Powers back, thanks to the Blue Caterpillar, but I think she will keep that a secret (her getting her powers back)... in the end, as Alyss is fighting Redd, everyone else is fighting the less threatening "people" and Alyss dies... everyone stops what they are doing as Redd laughs in her triumph only to be stopped by a whispering voice behind her, "Off with your head..." and after Redd gives a face of sheer fear and shock, she is beheaded by Alyss ^.^ She (Alyss) couldn't tell anyone her plans because she was afraid that Redd would suspect something... And of course Dodge kills The Cat, but only after near death himself :D

*chuckles* I like that idea. I like it a LOT.

For no reason that I can explain to myself, I rather like Ripkins and Blister. Ripkins more so than Blister, but then, Blister's a bit of a sadist and creepy to boot.

I'm not so concerned about loose ends. They could mean that there will be more material later on down the track. And if there isn't, that's what fan fiction is for - good exercise for the Imagination! :)

I vote Molly! After Arch held her captive and kept her in that drug-suit, I think she needs to be the one to finish him! I think Hatter gets to take care of Ripkins and Blister, but Molly gets Arch. :D

I think this is an awesome ending! As a writer myself I would love to see that happen. I've pictured it and it's so awesome, and it would give Alyss the "bad-a*&ness that it seems like she's had in both books, that she hasn't really let out yet. I would also like to see her mother play a bigger role in the end. It would be interesting if her mother sucked her into whatever "netherworld" that she has been cast into with her death. Here's how I think it might play out.
I'm thinking that Alyss fights Redd, and almost dies infront of a mirror. Redd prepares to deliver the killing blow when Genevive appears and says something clever I can't think of yet. Then she does some cool imagination thing, and sucks Redd into the portal with her.
As for the Cat, not sure. Most likely Dodge will kill it, but I don't know yet. I will agree that the Borderland Tribes will probably kill Arch, and I'm not even going to speculate on how Blister and Ripkins get theirs.

There most likely is. It seems like a completely logical storyline. The question is how would Alyss and the other Wonderland people find them or contact them? They're up to their ears in alligators as the saying goes, and no one expected to find anyone with imagination powers on Earth. Even Redd didn't expect to find them.

Exactly! That would be awesome. As to the discussion on Ripkins and Blister, I would probably put my money on their demise coming as a father/daughter co-operative effort than them killing each-other. As of right now neither of them has any reason to switch sides.

Well, she IS technically part of Imagination itself through her leaping into the Heart Crystal at the end of the first book. I think it's pretty hard to remove someone from Imagination.

Ooh. I just had a potentially nasty thought. What if Alyss ended up going into the Heart Crystal as well so that her influence could balance out Redd's? Kind of a tragic sacrifice for the good of the universe. Or not so tragic, depending on whether Dodge ended up dead or not.

I wish I hadn't thought of that. It kind of fits a bit too well.

There's going to be this HUGE fight scene between good and evil. It is in the favor of evil till the very end, when an unexpected person saves the day. The person? Haha, i dunno. Lewis Carrol? What a random twist that'd be. Possibly the walrus butler? haha!

Redd would either survive or die. There's no way she can be taken prisoner because she'll just escape. Bibwit Harte will have a HUGE factor in all of this!!! Mainly because he's my favorite character. Um...the fight scene will determine who gets the throne. Who knows? Maybe King Arch will see the good in having a Queendom and join forces w/ Alyss. Chances are very slim, but hey, that'd be kinda interesting. Otherwise, Archy-poo-poo will help Redd and Alyss at the same time...mainly because he's an jack-donkey like that. Um, crap. Hold on (looking up name of character)...the Cat! Wow, I forgot him! He's going to die. End of story.

Actually, I didn't ever get the idea that Redd was eternal in imagination. I thought that she would be like all the other things that went through the Heart Crystal- it goes to one person's imagination and it gets invented on earth. For example Redd and the Cat went to that one painter's imagination and now that they have been "invented" on earth they are no longer in the Heart Crystal.

But I still hope that there's no jumping into Heart Crystals this time around. Even if Dodge goes in, too... they would just end up on Earth sooner or later like Redd and the cat and make their way back to Wonderland anyways, so to me it's kinda pointless. It worked for Redd in The LGW, but because we know how it works now I think it wouldn't be satisfactory.

Come on, Beddor... please pump out the happy endings for us!

I admit, I'd like a happy ending, too. But only if it's plausible! I'd rather have a logical, bittersweet ending than an illogical sappy one.

Here's my theory just so it's out there. I think Alyss and Dodge, if they get married, actually get married in secret before the end of the book, only a few people like Bibwit and Molly and Hatter are there for this one. And then just to make it offical to the rest of Wonderland at the end after Redd is gone. They have a real wedding. Now I also think there's going to be something like a main enimies battle in the end.

Alyss vs. Redd: That's a given.
Dodge vs. The Cat: Again, also a given.
Homburg Molly vs. King Arch: He's kidnapped her, blackmailed her father, tricked her mother, and ended up leading to her mother's death. I wouldn't be surprised if she did fight him. And it would be SO ironic if the mysognistic King Arch gets beaten by a thirteen-year-old girl! (LOL)
Hatter Madigan vs. Ripkins & Blister: They're said to match him in Millinery skill. Let's seem him prove that wrong once and for all! Also Ripkins found Weaver at Talon's Point after she'd recorded the diary, which led to her wrongfully trusting Arch. Another reason to kill him.

To me, because I'm a sucker for a happy ending and I happen to love these good guys, I think they'll win the fights, but it would be very close. But it will all turn out ok in the end for them.

Here's my theory just so it's out there. I think Alyss and Dodge, if they get married, actually get married in secret before the end of the book, only a few people like Bibwit and Molly and Hatter are there for this one. And then just to make it offical to the rest of Wonderland at the end after Redd is gone. They have a real wedding. Now I also think there's going to be something like a main enimies battle in the end.

Alyss vs. Redd: That's a given.
Dodge vs. The Cat: Again, also a given.
Homburg Molly vs. King Arch: He's kidnapped her, blackmailed her father, tricked her mother, and ended up leading to her mother's death. I wouldn't be surprised if she did fight him. And it would be SO ironic if the mysognistic King Arch gets beaten by a thirteen-year-old girl! (LOL)
Hatter Madigan vs. Ripkins & Blister: They're said to match him in Millinery skill. Let's seem him prove that wrong once and for all! Also Ripkins found Weaver at Talon's Point after she'd recorded the diary, which led to her wrongfully trusting Arch. Another reason to kill him.

To me, because I'm a sucker for a happy ending and I happen to love these good guys, I think they'll win the fights, but it would be very close. But it will all turn out ok in the end for them.

I like your theories. Especially the part about Molly beating up Arch. Hee hee! For me, a scene like that right there would make the price of the book worth it in itself.

Oh, but Hatter will only have Blister to fight. Did you read the prologue for the third book @ the end of paperback Hatter M.?

But as cool as an Arch/Molly fight would be, I somehow have the feeling that if Arch is killed, it might be the hand of Her Imperial Viciousness that deals the final blow. Just, because he's kind of like a friend to her... it would so fit her character to just kill him. She didn't seem to have any qualms about taking all the dude's power.

Putting aside my grief for the moment, I'm surprised that Ripkins was the first to go. Blister definitely comes off as the more evil of the two, with his obvious sadism. But perhaps he's meant to be the more dangerous one, and that's why he lasts.

I dunno. I love Ripkins and Blister. I know that they have to die, because they are allied with Arch and therefore with Redd, but that doesn't mean I like it. :(

There's no bookstore here near me that has Seeing Redd. I usually get my books online. I didn't want to order a paperback just to read the prologue. I should have gotten the frickin' paper back! *saddened*

She raced up the front walk, using her imagination to unlock the door and turn the latch. Inside the house, nothing had changed. The umbrella stand and hat rack, the family pictures hanging in the hall, even the gouge in the baseboard marking where she'd thrown her ice skates one winter afternoon: everything was exactly as it had been when she'd lived there... so long ago, it seemed. "Please, what do you want?" the dean's voice reached her from the back of the house.

She sighted them in her imagination's eye: the dean and Mrs. Liddell, Edith and Lorina. Their clothes a good deal ripped, they huddled together on the drawing room sofa in fearful silence while Ripkins -once bodyguard for Borderland's King Arch but now Redd Heart's assasin- stood ominously before them. Ripkins: the only Borderlander who could flex his figertips, pushing deadly sawteeth up out of the skin in the patterns of his fingerprints.

"Please," the dean said again.

Fingerprint blades flexed, Ripkins moved his hands fast in front of him, shredding air. Mrs. Liddell flinched. The assasin took a step towards the dean, the sisters each let out a sob, and-

"Hello?" Alyss called, walking directly into the room. She had imagined herself into Alice Liddell's long skirt and blouse, her hair in a tight bun. "Excuse me, I didn't know there was company."

She tried to look startled- eyes wide, mouth half open, head tilted apologetically. Wanting to catch Ripkins off guard, she pretended to be meek, cowered, and let him grab her and push her towards the Liddells. As she thought her double would.

Where he'd touched her, there was blood.

Ripkins' hands again became a blur in front of him, churning air and moving in towards the dean's chest. Alyss had no choice but to expose her imaginative powers in front of the Liddells. With the slightest of movements, she conjured a deck of razor cards and sent them cutting through the air.

Fiss! Fiss, fiss, fiss!

In a single swift motion, Ripkins spun clear and unholstered a crystal shooter, firing a retaliatory cannonade. Alyss gestured as if wiping condensation off a looking glass and the shrapnel-like bullets of wulfenite and barite crystal clattered to the floor.

The Liddells sat dumbfounded, their fear muted in the shock of seeing their adopted daughter engage in combat, producing otherworldly missles out of air- flat, blade-edged rectangles resembling playing cards, bursts of gleaming bullets. She conjured them as fast as she defended herself against them, what with the intruder making expert use of the strange guns and knives strapped to his belt, thighs, biceps, and forearms.

"Father!"

A fistful of mind-riders -ordinary-looking darts infused with poison that turned victims one upon the other in death-dealing rage- rocketed towards the family.

Alyss threw out her hand; the weapons changed trajectory, shooting towards her. She annihilated them in midair with a pinch of her fingers, becoming like gravity itself, pulling whatever Ripkins hurled at the Liddells towards her until-

The wall pushed out a score of daggers. Ripkins slammed against them and slumped to the floor.

Silence, except for the ticking of a grandfather clock.

"Oh!"

In the doorway stood Alyss' double, the woman she had, with the utmost effort, imagined into being to take her place in this world: Alice Liddell, who, with her gentleman friend, Reginald Hargreaves, stared at the dead assasin and Wonderland's queen. The dean, his wife, and his third eldest daughter looked from Alyss Heart to Alice Liddell and back again.

"I-?" the dean started.

But that was all he managed before Alyss bolted from the room and out of the house, sprinting until she was well along St. Aldate's. Certain the Liddells weren't following her, she walked briskly in the direction of Carfax Tower, towards the portal that would return her to Wonderland: a puddle where no puddle should be, in the middl of sun-drenched pavement behind the tower. But even from this distance she could see that something wasn't right. The portal was shrinking, its edges drying up fast. She started to run, her imagination's eye scanning the town.

"How can it be?" she breathed, because all of the portals were shrinking, the tower puddle already half its former size when she leapt for it, closing her eyes and sucking in her breath, anticipating the swift watery descent through portal waters, the reverse pull of the Pool of Tears, the-

Knees jarring, she landed on the pavement. The portal had evaporated.

Alyss Heart, the rightful Queen of Wonderland, was stranded on earth.


Now if THAT doesn't get you hyped up to read book 3, I don't know what will! LOL!

Everyone remember! Since this is the prologue, that means this is in the middle of the book and not the beginning of the next book. So basically we just got an excerpt. :D

I was really hoping that 'Alice' wouldn't walk in. Because I was thinking that possibly Blister took her to Wonderland and did this whole trade of the Alysses thing. But nope. She walked in. So there goes that idea.

I really wanted Alyss to go back to earth though, I just didn't think she'd get trapped. So apparently Redd drained Pool of Tears or something. How smart. :)

*taps lip* Hmm... Well, as you said, those who have the will to live can't be Imagined dead. I think that Redd would have to be exactly focussed on that specific person to make it work - and frankly, I don't think that there will be many who'll lose their will to live for more than a few seconds, if at all (it's pretty hard to make someone lose their will to live! Humans are a tough bunch).

My other curiosity is that whether simple will is enough, or whether instinct is taken into account as well. Humans struggle for life when faced with death - someone would have be be VERY far gone not to struggle at all. I wonder whether that counts as "will", since that's more of an instinct thing? :confused:

You have the most intriguing questions, TEGA.

You know what I think it is? I think even though that people may lose the will to live, they still can't be killed through imagination or whatever.

Technically, plain cut and stupidly, everyone has the right for the will to live. As long as they have that choice even if they choose to "not have the will to live" they still can't be killed through pure imagination because they technically still have the will to live. ok. that didn't make sense. it's hard to explain. Now when I said the losing the will to live, I don't think it's just a thought. Like "I no longer have the will to live" and boom Redd can just imagine you dead. I think it would be a subconcious thing and they would probably have to be in pretty bad shape physically. Like say someone gets badley wounded and they're alone. They keep trying to stay consious and alive for as long as they can. That's seems like the will to live. But if they suddenly think "What's the point?" or "Aaaah it hurts too much!" or something like that, then maybe subconsiously they've given up the will to live and then someone can imagine them dead, only at that point. IDK, sorry if I make no sense and again, sorry it's such an emo concept. It's just really been bugging me.

I'd thought that too. I think when it comes to the that whole rule, I think that, as everyone has said, the will to live is a survival instinct. I still think the person would have to be in very bad physical shape to even consider, subconsiously, losing the will to live.

We know for a fact that certain protagonists have certain antagonists as their arch emeny. I.E. Dodge and the Cat, Redd and Alyss, etc. So what if it's called ArchEnemy because Alyss has the ultimate face-off with Redd, (like it's a to the death sort of thing). Dodge has the ultimate face-off against the Cat and Homburg Molly has an ultimate face-off against Arch (you know it would be hiliarously ironic if Arch, the ultimate sexist of the story, has his a** kicked by a girl that he never took seriously. But that's just my opinion). The list of people facing their worst enimies is a long what that I'm not going to name everyone to, but there's the beginning of it to me. And I think the story will have something big to do with Arch (obviously), but we don't know what yet. There's my theory.

I think it will be as long as the others as well. It usually does take this long though to publish the books. And remember, Frank first published LGW in 2004 and then Seeing Redd in 2007, soooooo now it's 2009. And that's a shorter gap. *shrugs* I still think it's going to be the same amount of pages. :)

I still stand by that mysterious synopsis that I found a while ago. So Everqueen would be the Heart Crystal. :) It makes sense, right? It's the only thing that gives all the queens of Wonderland their power of imagination.

And something more mysterious...I can't find the synopsis anymore. It's been deleted. So I think Frank went out of his way to delete it or something because it's true. LOL! or not. :rolleyes:

Uhm. As for your dying theory thing: I don't think Alyss or Dodge is gonna die either. If Frank does kill them off, I'd be really really surprised. I highly doubt he would kill them. If you study any good story, you would know that this main couple will NOT die. I could go into a deep analysis, but no one ever replies when we do that. So just to skip to the end...you should be worrying most about Hatter because he's most at risk of the good guys. But that's just our analysis. And like we always say: We could be wrong. ;)

I also think that "EverQueen" is the Heart Crystal. Because let's face it, that's what gives each and every Queen her powerful abilities... or at least what strengthens them. I think it is "EverQueen" because it provides the power over everything, over every Queen, in Wonderland.

Well IDK, it could sound immortal, but hey who knows it could me mortal, like a person. This may sound weird, but in Harry Potter the "Master of Death" was who ever owned all three of the Deathly Hallows and they were supposed to have "mastery over death" but it really was that being the "Master of Death" was really owning all three Hallows and accepting that being a human, death is natural and it happens to everyone. So my point is, is that it could sound big and immortal, but it could end up being something a human could handle. Sorry for the rant. :D

P.S. that was one of the biggest reasons I love the Harry Potter series. It may seem like just a children's book but it can sometimes have a deeper meaning to it that only someone older can get. (Double smileys for the HP series. :D :D)
