Now there's been a lot of talk about this, recently. And since I am an inquisitive beast by nature, I'd like to know what people think a Wonderland accent sound like.

Personally, I didn't imagine a different accent in the book. Or at least, for the Wonderland accent, I didn't imagine something that far removed from what Alyss experienced while in our world.

If anything, I imagined the difference to be something like a dialectal variation. I also thought, being British and learning about the fluctuating ideas of class, the social system and Thatcherism, that the different classes in Wonderland would all speak a little differently to one another and so things like Alyss talking with an odd accent would be a case of upbringing and class rather than just being from Wonderland. As well this would reflect on Hatter's accent. As well as how characters like General Doppelganger (from the army), Bibwit (Royal Tutor), Jack (Upper Class) and Dodge (Middle Class) would talk to each other and sound different.

...

Am I thinking about this too much?

You are totally not thinking about this too much (unless I am too) because I've been wondering about what sort of speech patterns that the different people of wonderland would have as well!

I was also wondering if Borderland and the surrounding areas also had the same accent or if it were different, considering how close they are. But its kind of hard to tell what accents they would have seeing as there were no mentions of it in the book. But yes, I imagined Accents, but they aren't the types that can be placed. Its kind of like when you have a plate of food and can tell that there are spices, but you can't really tell what they are.. you know. You try to place it, but its just that elusive flavor and you can't really ask the cook, because they're in the kitchen and it would be rude to walk back there and ask... Or is that too weird?

It may be because Im American, but I pictured an American accent. Plus, it would seem more often than not, the intended dialect of a book tends to be similar to the accent and dialect of the author. It certainly would explain why she sounded silly to the street urchins. >.>
