I am planning on auditioning for the upcoming Looking Glass Wars movie, and I was wondering if a) there were any other cast hopefuls here or b) there is anyone who knows where the auditions are going to be held.

I don't think they've announced them yet.

Yeah, they haven't announced anything about auditions yet, but there are certainly cast hopefuls aplenty.

who are you gonna audition for? Do you have previous acting experience?

I actually do. I did Hollywood acting as a child, and I've been doing amateur theatre for the last 4 years. Plus, the whole reason I read the book was that a friend of mine told me of an "uncanny resemblance" to the main character. At the time, she was just thinking I would go to ComiCon as Alyss, but once I heard about the auditions, I became mildly obsessed. ^_^

What is everyone else thinking of auditioning for?

Well, I dont think I'd be allowed to, but I'd LOVE to audition for Alyss too! haha yeah I check the auditon page religously! =D I've also been told I look like her. What did you do as a child?

Not enough, in my opinion. ^_^ I did a crapload of commercials...lets see...I was in a pilot series with the chick off of CSI:NY. That was really fun. It was called Leaving LA, but it didn't get picked up after the pilot, so it didn't last that long...Um...I was a voice in Lilo and Stitch. The little annoying red-haired chick? That's me. ^_^

I actually quit because there's this thing in Hollywood for people under the age of 18, where for every year older you are, you're allowed to work that much longer per day. Because of this, they look for older kids who look younger, so they can work them longer. Problem with that was I was a young kid who looked older.

I was in the frontrunning to be in Spy Kids 2, actually. I was supposed to be the president's daughter. I was called back to see the director a bunch of times, and he kept telling me that he really loved how I played the part. At the last minute, they went with an older actress who had a bit more notable experience. It pissed me off (it shouldn't have, but I was a little sick of being out of work) and it really wasn't worth the price of gas to me anymore (I lived in Orange County, and commuted to LA almost daily). So, I told my mum I didn't want to do it anymore.

And that was probably far too much information. XD I tend to go off sometimes. Sorry. <3

I really doubt they'll limit who can try out for what. Which age range of Alyss do you think you'd try out for?

Wow! That's so awesome that you did all that acting as a kid! It's sort of my HUGEST DREAM IN THE WORLD to be a film actress! I look younger than I am, so maybe that will help me out in respect to the movie industry.

I'm pretty much determined to audition for the LGW movie, no matter how far away it is (I'm saving my money for a plane ticket). I WICKED want to play Molly! She's pretty much my favorite character. But if I couldn't be her, then a teenage Alyss would be awesome (even if it were just part of a montage or something)

Because you've had so much experience in the film industry, princess_pynkk, do you think you could give those of us who have been less exposed some tips for auditioning?

Keep in mind that I really haven't done Hollywood stuff for a solid 7 years. But, I can tell you what I do remember.

Firstly, and most randomly, be careful with some colors (green in particular). If you own a decent video camera, I would suggest doing a screen test in the outfit you plan on auditioning in. Green, for example, is one of my best colors, but it reflects onto faces on most video cameras, which makes the wearer look ill. Make certain your outfit is flattering, and try to avoid bold prints (it makes you dissappear).

As for the actual audition, and I know it sounds corny, but be yourself. Most casting directors can tell immediately if someone is being fake, and it's a definite put off. Now, if you are a deliquent with a history of disrespecting authority, you may want to clean up the act a bit. ^_^ But be polite and respectful, and be honest.

Headshots can be rather important, though I'm not certain if this casting call will require them. Have them done professionally, if at all possible, and even if you don't need them for this casting call, it will help you if you have them for later potential jobs.

The fact that you look younger than you are will help you tremendously. It means you'll be worked longer hours, but hey, whatever it takes, right? ^_^

I, personally, hope the auditions aren't until spring. ^_^ That way, I will have turned solidly 18, and there will no longer be a question of child labor laws applying. As it is now, when they ask my age, I will probably respond with "17. But I'll be 18 by the start of production." >_>

There has been plenty of speculation on the movie auditions, but I have a feeling that we won't see real action until around or after the last book has seen print. Right now, my guess is that the script is in draft form, but will get a bit more touch-up after the third book is written and Mr. Beddor can play with foreshadowing of future events that may not be in place at this time.

The good thing is that if there ARE publically held auditions, I have a strong suspicion that we will know firsthand. ;)

And as much as it would be fun to truy be Her Imperial Viciousness, I'm afraid that I'll have to settle for other venues. Like here :) Or others, as appropriate (hooray for cosplay!).

I'm not so sure if they'll wait for the third book. Remember, they made five Harry Potter movies before that book series was complete. Personally, I hope that the LGW movie auditions are coming really soon!

Well, religiously is just a figure of speech! lol I check it 2 times a day... Or just whenever I get on the computor! I think I wouls like to audition for the older Alyss too. If I do you might have some competition! jk lol! So, you actually been apart of the whole "Hollywood scene?" You know, free stuff, interviews... that kinda thing?

and yeah I hope they wait til the 3rd book is finished and I think that they will do what ImperialV said. Plus, I think it was mentioned on a different page that the Frank Beddor had said they wanted to do the special effects before the casting, and that was a three year process. This was posted in Dec of 07. So I don't know if that's true, but....

Personally, I don't think it would make much sense to do all the visual effects before any casting, because you wouldn't have the actors to put the CGI and stuff around, like on a green screen. I am a habitual watcher of special features on DVDs, and I don't think I've ever come across a movie where the visual effects were done prior to the acting.

And by the way, I also check the audition page obsessively (at least twice a day)!

True, but the first Harry Potter movie was released in November 2001. By that point, at least three books had come out before the first movie's production started, perhaps even four as "Goblet of Fire" was published in July of 2000. In short, there was a LOT of source material already in place to work with.

It's not to say that things can't start faster than that, but I have a sense that they are not going to rush this into play for the sake of getting it in the theater quickly. I think the idea has a bit too much work and time put into it to run into fast decisions :)

(and yes, I'm a bit of a Potterhead, though less active than I once was)

I go to this big swim meet every year where you have to check in when you get there, and the names are divided by age group. A couple years ago, the session I was in had the 9-10 age group and the 13-14 age group. Both mornings the woman at the check-in table asked me if I was a 9-10, and I had to say "No, I'm 13."

The same thing happened this year, when my session had 11-12s and 15-18s in it. I had to tell the lady "No, I'm not an 11-12. I'm 15." It was a tad embarrassing.

Well, if it makes you guys feel better, I forget how old i am :D haha

I went to the movies and the chick asked me how old I was...I seriously almost said 13 (I'm almost sixteen, so that's kinda sad). I know the friends I went with just stared at me ....haha, but I got in at a cheaper price for being under 16 :) Which is always great!

And in case you guys' didn't know, I have a HORRIBLE memory!
