Sorry if there's already a thread like this! I looked but I couldn't find it if there is one.
While I was reading over this forum I was observing how we all have different favorite characters. I was just wondering what drew you to your particular favorite character.
I guess I should begin by answering my own question. As you can probably tell by my username, I am a huge Homburg Molly fan. I like her because she's a young girl who has pretty much fended for herself her whole life; she is fiercely loyal to what she believes in and is willing to work hard to protect it. Not to mention that she kicks butt with a flair of girl power! LOL!

What attracted me to Molly was that I love how free spirited she is. Not only that but how skillful she is when she fights I mean it never said how she learned to fight (at least i dont think it ever said it). I also love that she is a girl I mean if you think about there really has been no girl hero's in any story which sucks. I mean lets get some girl hero's here like I mean I love stories like Beowulf, and the 300, etc. But I mean come on GIRL POWER!!! :D:cool: But yeah anyway theres so many more reasons why Molly is my favorite character but I just cant think of them at this point ( URGH I hate brain farts)!!!

I admit to a deep weakness for villians, and Redd...well, she's a pretty good villian in my head. The one that is all like "I'm not doing anything wrong...YOU ARE!" *point and glare!*
Redd's a classic case of a teenager carrying a very nasty temper tantrum, but it usually ends up with people decapitated. It's...oddly fun.
And hey...anybody who conjures up flesh eating roses is a bonus in my book. Venus flytraps? PAH!

LOL yeah that is awesome. Redd is by far the best bad guy... er, bad girl that I've ever come across in books. I mean, I am a huge Narnia fan, but... I'm sorry, evil witch-queen Jadis. You've been beaten. You're not really much of anything compared to Redd!

I dunno...the Narnia fans might have something to say there.
Perhaps it's time to call a 10-bout catfight between these two....

Jadis is impressive but I've still got my bets on Redd.

What attracted me to Hatter, was the fact that he was just so mysterious. (Like me! *Shifts eyes*) And he had such a firm sense of duty! Plus the fact that he's Molly's dad! ^-^ :)

The whole part about Hatter being Molly's Dad was hands down my FAVORITE thing about Seeing Redd. Probably because Hatter is my second favorite character after Molly! :)

I'm putting it all on Jadis.
She doesn't settle for simply decapitating her sister - she destroys their entire world.
And to be on topic...
I love Hatter and Molly probably because they appeal to the fanstasy of being able to handle anything myself. And I think I like Molly more, because her pride and enjoyment in what she can do and constant desire to prove herself are so endearing.

So, I got to thinking about this again when I was browsing Alice in Wonderland merch at Hot Topic.
I hated the Disney film as a little girl. I don't remember the first time I saw it, it was the only one missing from my Disney collection because my parents knew it upset me.
So I was scared of the Hatter especially. The only reason I can figure now is that he was a grown-up, but he was too senseless to help Alice. Bizarre, I know, but imagine how scary a thought that could be at an age when you depend on grown-ups for everything.
Hatter Madigan would be the antithesis to Disney's Hatter then.
And Homburg Molly, would be that transition into adulthood and being able to look after oneself and others.
Weird musings, but the mall was boring.

Well here's my four...
Alyss: Becuse I relate to her, she's powerful in imagination, the fact that I'm a May-baby and so is she, she's a strong female character, and as much as she's powerful, and a monarch and all, she has her flaws and the things that make her human. Oh and she loves Dodge :D
Molly: She's awesome, what else can I say?!? She kicks butt, she's got hardcore girl power, and yet she also has a side of her I can relate to, and she can sometimes be hard on herself, but that, to me is what humanizes her.
Dodge: I always imagined him as a hottie :p, I have a weird thing with guys with scars (i.e. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Dodge Anders, Jasper Hale, etc.). He also has that dark side of himself that shows he has flaws and is imperfect, just like everyone els. And I, being a romantic @ heart, love how Dodge fights his darkest urges for Alyss. (Awwww! <3)
Hatter: He kicks butt, just as his daughter does, he's got a lot of depth to him, and the fact that he had a woman he loved that he lost (twice in Hatter's case), completes the macho, B.A. man he is :D.
My favorite character out of the entire series hands down is Alyss. Her personality and mine are quite similar. we're both very caring, and very imaginative, we're both insanely kind and very patient. Both me and Alyss never give up. We do our best everyday. The list could go on but these are some reasons to why Alyss is my favorite. I think if It were possible for me to meet her in real life, we'd be very good friends.

I'd have to say Alyss is my favorite character. I'm not sure what attracted me to her though. I guess in a way we're kinda similar (more than Molly) but then again, she's nothing like me! She's much more brave... much much much more brave... Half the stuff she does, no way could I do!!

What attracted me to Hatter was the mysterious air about him. I don't know why, but whenever I think about Hatter, I can't help but wonder if something happened to him in the past. . .something that changed him (I just started the second book, no spoilers please!). That's what attracted me to him.

SCORE!! Hatter is one of my favoritest characters too...right next to Redd.
*lips are sealed* I'm glad you're enjoying the book. :D

Molly was the first character to jump out at me because she's a young girl, but takes it all maturely and, you know, as an awesome hat!!! She's brave (she attempts level Z and succedes!) and outgoing. :)
